ISU Head Coaching Records..?

When "Mac" took this job he told me a very interesting stat....

ISU has had only one Head Coach in it's History to finish with a record above .500 in Big 12 Conference play....

Check this out, and it shows you how hard it is to win in the Big 12...

Who was it?.......LE

P.S. .....TF (was 30-30 not above right at)

Re: ISU Head Coaching Records..?

Timmy Floyd just had the one stink season, otherwise he was great. Just seems like our program can never be steady for more than a 2-4 years at a time. Orr set the tone and left TF with a full cupboard. Floyd had it going here, then bails. LE walks into a rebuilding process but then has the 2 best seasons ever. He runs into trouble, we are rebuilding again. Wayne comes in, does an admirable job his first two years but then sputters year 3 and is fired. We hire Gmac and we are yet again in a rebuilding process. Can't we just get a damn coach to stay here 10 years and have it click! I "think" we have that now finally.

I assuming you're joking, because its a dumb stat. You're totaling all wins and losses over different season, not individual season conference records. We've only had 3 coaches coach in the Big XII (Morgan, Eustachy, and Floyd), not including GM who hasn't finished his first season yet. It was LE, and Tim Floyd only coached one season in the conference, so its really an underwhelming and un-enlightening statistic.

Re: ISU Head Coaching Records..?

For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure that TF had two seasons in the Big 12, not just one.

Anyway, I remember seeing an interesting stat once on ESPN on coaching stability and how important it is for a program to have one coach for a long time in order to be a good program.

I did some thinking and writing, and including Johnny Orr's last season in 1993-94, ISU has had FIVE head coaches in THIRTEEN YEARS. The only other BCS school I can think of that might have that type of turnover is Illinois, or maybe Baylor. But 5 coaches in 13 years is an astonishing ratio to me. No wonder we haven't been able to build any kind of stability in our program.

I just hope that if next year turns out to be a struggle that JP doesn't get trigger happy again and brings in our sixth coach in 15 years. I don't think that will happen, but you never know.

lol, yep...makes me envious of programs like Penn St. football with Joe Paterno as well as much as I hate Duke, i envy having someone long-tenured like Coach K.....In today's "what have you done for me lately" world, its still places with long-tenured coaches that have the most success overall.

That stat also includes coaches in the big eight. It's actually a pretty shocking stat.

If we go 4-12 or 5-11, it will take a long time to catch up to .500. You ave to be middling good every year. And this year, is go down the potty for various reasons - mostly we cannot shoot our way out of a paperbag.. I cannot understand this because Ross,Gray, Rahsnon, Jiri, and Wesley can hit the short jumpr. Instead, people appear to force their shots and do not pass the ball around enough to get a good shot. Then Brack has a good shot and hits the side of the backboard. Amd then Dodie has a good shot and he gets blocked. Hmm. Basics are missing with this group. I thought if you could play good defense, the offense would come along. Guess not. Have we peaked with this group? I mean, Mike, Jiri and Wesly probably are scoring peak performance now. Who will step up and take up the slack. We need to be able to average 72 points a game in Big 12 to keep up with the Boggans of the world.

EIU is the other Okoboji University for serious students and home of Captain Kirk who pilots the Enterprise on its Trek through the Universe for finding his next great job. Captain, beware of your Superbowl.

I was including Big 8 transition to Big 12 and I disagree , One would think with the reputation of ISU Basketball, Tradition, Players, Coaches and all....

There would be more sucess within your conference...shows how strong it is and how hard it is to WIN!

Just my thoughts
