Re: Dave Armstrong: Witty or Weird?
I respect Armstrong a lot as well - he's always been kind to the 'Clones, and he honestly enjoys the Big 12.
Plus, he voiced the same two revelations I had Saturday watching Johnny Pittman's son play for UT: 1) Wow, am I old... was 1990 that long ago? and 2) Pittman really, really could not shoot free throws. Think he was 27% his senior year, worse even than Gottlieb.

He sad that last year after a Clark dunk he followed it up with "he changes in a phonebooth" my friends and I looked at each other and asked if he really just said that.

Re: Dave Armstrong: Witty or Weird?
Overall, I like his call. He does get to be a little of a homer though when talking about the Jayhawks. Tends to be the only team where you know the high school of every UK player before the game is over.

Re: Dave Armstrong: Witty or Weird?
Armstrong again in rare form; as I was listening, I began coming up with a drinking game to play during his broadcasts:
Says "Wow": drink
Calls the staid Paul Splitorff "Split": drink
Forces a bad pun: drink twice
Tries to make a pun out of Chris Caesar's name (tonight's was the "Ides of March" reference): chug entire drink
Mentions Taylor's vertical, then tells us that WJ bested it: Snort a shot of Jack Daniels
Feel free to add your own. I know the majority of people like the guy, as do I, but the repeated cornyness gets on my nerves. He had many clunkers, mostly in the first half tonight.

I liked his comment tonight: Jiri can't miss tonight, he just threw that one in the basket's general direction!

That kind of stuff is fine, it's the groaners that make me lose it. I was half expecting him to say something like, "After a subpar start to the season, Hubalek is having a great "Jiri!"

Re: Dave Armstrong: Witty or Weird?
I think he has energy and does a great job!! He certainly is an ISU homer which is ok as long as he does not get too goofy. If you do not like him, join us at Hilton and you'll not have to listen to him.

I'm not calling for the guys' resignation or anything, just think the goofiness could be toned down.

Check out this guys' take on many of the nation's commentators, including Dave Armstrong. Not too kind to him. http://www.kjhk.org/programming/sports/blogdent.html Forever trying to find a cure for the Dunning-Kruger Effect. -

He's hell-bent on getting the Ceaser jokes in. -

Did anyone catch the "LONG-arms of LONG-ar" joke he made when Longar blocked Mike Taylor's shot?
