Fan Behavior at KU & MU
Interesting stories about fan behavior at KU & MU:
- KU AD Lew Perkins apologizes to KSU AD Tim Weiser for fan's actions. During the second half of Wednesday's KU-KSU game in Lawrence, Jayhawk fans chanted "DUI, DUI" at Huggins, referring to his 2004 conviction at Cincinnatti. Students also held up copies of the University Daily Kansan with a fold out illustration of of Huggins behind bars with the caption "Hugs and Thugs".
- At halftime of the KU-MU game people in the MU student section tossed water bottles, a can of Skoal, and hot dogs at the officials as they left the floor.

Did Bill Self apologize also? Thought so.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

Sad to say it but I think that kind of thing happens almost every where, once in a while.

Re: Fan Behavior at KU & MU
Yeah..... can you imagine how ISU would have been treated in Lawrence or anywhere else in the Big Dozen had LE somehow been retained as head coach?
such chants are pretty classless, although funny at the same time... I'm sorta torn on this... I mean isn't it part of the whole home-court advantage thing to have rabid fans? Perhaps attacking players/coaches personal issues takes it a bit too far, but I do recall a great sign at the ISU-Iowa game in '95 aimed at Kingsbury, something of the nature "0.25, GPA or Blood alcohol level?"
I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. Thomas Jefferson, 1802 -
Re: Fan Behavior at KU & MU
I remember when Scott Skiles came to Hilton in the mid to late 80s as part of Michigan State. The fans held up handcuffs and chanted "jailbait" at him. Then he went off for something like 27 points...ISU won in OT, but Johnny was upset at the fans. Not because he thought it was classless, but he thought that baiting Skiles made him better.

I remember things getting pretty blue when Pierre Pierce and/ or Haluska came back to Hilton.... but hey, they deserved it right???
So maybe the chants were classless- but Alford complaining about ISU students poor sportsmanship... now that CLASSIC!!!

Re: Fan Behavior at KU & MU
The best one was when the Wisconsin student section wore hunter orange vs Indiana after Bobby Knight's hunting accident.

Re: Fan Behavior at KU & MU
I'm all for "over the line" chants. Who cares what fans say, it IS part of the homecourt advantage (sticks and stones...). Now throwing things and whatever is a completely different story, however it completely fits the Missouri fans, that's for sure. Missouri stood around and shot 3's the whole first half while KU drove to the basket, obviously you're going to cause more fouls if you're being more offensively aggressive.

One of my favorites is the Colorado student section throwing all kinds of bottles and other debris onto the field after their football team lost to Nebraska to close the 2005 season. Security had to come in and clear the student section out.
The outcome of that game, of course, gave ISU a chance to clinch the Big XII North against Kansas ... oh, wait. Nevermind. -
Re: Fan Behavior at KU & MU
That reminds me of the time they teargassed the fans at the CU-CSU game in Mile High a few years ago.

That was just their rage coming out after years of us sneaking fruit in for the Colorado game to throw at Chip. My favorite still is bringing in the baggies of shell corn for the Nebraska fans that sit in our student section at JT for the Huskers game. After we score a touchdown the look on their face is just priceless when they get peppered across the face with a big handful. In conclusion...throwing things and yelling nasty comments is wrong kids

This is just funny coming from KU after the game in Ames and all the KU fans saying how classless ISU was for booing and saying how classy they are a fans. I hate KU basketball fans.

Re: Fan Behavior at KU & MU
I think the two cases are completely different. I think that Missouri should have apologized as physical acts such as throwing things is completely unacceptable. On the other hand, I think that chants that are TRUE (Huggy does/did have a drinking problem and does recruit thugs) are no problem. It'd be different if the things the fans were cheering were lies, but as long as they're true chant away.

Re: Fan Behavior at KU & MU
These coaches and athletes are public figures whether they like it or not and need to realize they live their lives in a fishbowl. It comes with the territory. We once chanted the phone number of a buddy of mine who had taken an opposing team's female basketball player home one night.
Exaggeration is a BILLION times worse than understating.
