Why I don't watch the NBA? Simple.
NBA = Professional Wrestling
Dont care for the NBA at all. College basketball is where its at.
A couple of examples:
I could go on and on and on.
- Dan Gadzuric makes $5.2 million this year and will make $7.2 million is 2010-11. He averages 3.8 points per game this year. Which is down from his career average of 5.4.
- Jaamal Magloire makes $8.3 million while averaging 5.5 points per game.
Go to http://www.hoopshype.com/salaries.htm and have a good laugh.
So you don't like baseball either correct? B/c they are some of the most overpaid players out there. Look at what Ted Lilly just got from the Cubs. Look at what Carl Pavano gets paid for not playing for the Yankees. Players are overpaid in every sport. That doesn't mean I am going to hate baseball or the NBA. When I watch a game, I don't go, "A-Rod better hit a home run b/c he is getting 25 mil a year!"
One last arguement that I'm not alone in not watching the NBA:
Ratings. They have been declining for awhile now.
I started this thread because of all the "Bad Behavior" by NBA players ie; J Tinsley...............it has reduced me to NCAA B-ball fan only....is it salaries, defense or lack of........now we debate baseball???? I for one love baseball and have season tickets to our Triple A team here. Great passtime for me when I travel, I attend at least 20 Major league games a year.
The point of the thread was behavior and on and off court incidents of the NBA........salaries contribute to issue???
I'll watch if players I like (Lebron, Garnett, Nash) are playing.
So your saying that you don't say, " A-Rod should at least be able to bat over .200 in the playoffs b/c he is getting paid 250 mil!" B/c everybody does. If you are the highest paid athlete in the sport and you suck when it matters the most, people are going to call you out. The reason Magloire gets paid the big bucks is b/c of his big body and they are hard to come by in the NBA. Is he overpaid? Yes. But so is Mike Hampton. You can't dislike a sport b/c of this or you wouldn't like many sports.
Also check your rankings again. The rankings in the NBA are on the rise this year. Why wouldn't they be. Kobe, Wade, Lebron, Nash. There are more good players than there has been since the 80's
Part of me is still trying to get into the NBA (in terms of watching of course, not playing). I enjoyed watching the Mavericks last year in the playoffs but when the regular season rolled around I just couldn't keep up an interest. Now that I live in H-Town I still think I'm going to try and get to some Rocket games and see if it's any better in person.
I love baseball as well. Played college ball. Left handed pitcher. It's the best game out there IMO, but players are overpaid there as well is the only argument I was trying to make
The NBA gets higher ratings than college basketball.
I still watch more college but I still enjoy the NBA. It seems that a lot of the people that love to bash it haven't actually watched a game in the last several years. It's much more enjoyable than it was in the few years after Jordan retired for good as the play has opened up again and there are a lot of great, young players that can pass and defend and do the little things too.
As far as the criminal element almost all sports have that problem. Look at the Gonzaga guys or the ridiculous number of Bengals arrested this year.
