Utah gets $500,000 from former QB

How about this, Alex Smith of the 49ers gives his old school 1/2 a mil for the program. I don't remember alot of former players/alum ponying up that kind of money for their school let alone an NFL QB donating that kind of money. Pretty cool that he is leading the fund raising for the rest of the 1 mil needed.

Anybody know of other such NFL player donations??? is this out of the norm?

I think that just about the entire University of Miami athletics budget comes from former UM football and baseball players and AROD, it sure isn't coming from attendance... I beleive they have a trust council or something headed up by Bernie Kosar and Jim Kelly.

yeah true that, yeah he did sign an ext. with seattle. i kinda wish he wouldn't have...I am not a hasselbeck fan and I think seneca could start for at least 5 teams in the league. Browns, Lions, Raiders, Vikings, Dolphins...I know some guys would rather play for potential winners, but I do think seneca has the tools to be an NFL starter, not just a backup.

Unfortunately, we don't have any guys getting selected in the top part of round 1 like Alex Smith where they get life altering money. I believe this will change under Chizik.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

I felt the same, he could start elsewhere and thought he would go free agent instead of signing again with Seattle. His backup role has been good for him but playing time will have to increase to raise his stock in future.

I beleive Mike Myers signed a 3 year 15 mill contract a few years ago just to pitch to Barry Bonds, I don't think his deal last year was too bad either... Although it might be tough to hit him up being that there is no more baseball...

I think it's time for some of these former Cyclones that are doing well at the next level to start sending ca$h to the athletic deparment. Maybe they are and we just don't hear about it, but they definitely should be approached about contributing financially to these facility enhancements.

Alex Smith has a $49,500,000 contract with the 49ers. If we ever have a #1 draft pick QB, I'm sure he'll throw a little coin back to ISU. All the ISU players in the NFL put together probably make as much as Smith does in one year.

They might not be excited about giving to the athletic department when the AD fired their former coach..

i wanted them to resign seneca and not matt h. i still think they may have held on to seneca because they see him starting for them in the future. matt h is getting old and hes just not as good anymore.
