Kelly will win at Cincy right away and make us look bad in the short run.
But, he is a guy that will bounce around quite often and I think Chizik is more likely to stay for a longer run.
This is what makes message boards interesting. You've hit on my biggest concern with the hiring of Gene Chizik, but your "take" is 180 degrees opposite of mine!
Brian Kelly was at GV State for over a decade before he took the job at CMU. His salary at CMU was published during our coaching search; he made $180K. I honestly don't know what Cinci's paying him, but it's probably safe to say he at least tripled his previous salary. Yet you're suggesting he's a "job hopper"?
Again, I hope that Gene Chizik has great success and stays at ISU for a long, long time, but his job history doesn't suggest anything of the sort. People want to bring up his stints at Auburn (3 years) and Texas (2 years). I know he was "moving up" the coaching ladder, but it shows he's willing to move for a better job (nothing shabby about Auburn). What happens when there's a job opening at a "higher profile" school in the ACC or SEC (say Clemson, with whom he has a history)?
I'm not saying it'll happen; I'm just saying it was something (potential longevity) I was thinking about during the hiring process...
