I love this team. Sure, part of its b/c they're the polar opposite compared to the last 2 years of the And 1 tour 'me ball'. And part of it is b/c we're all giving McD a pass in the 1st year....so lower expectations given defections not seen since Kruschev.
Random thoughts on the kids.
- Is there any doubt that McD single handedly has created hope for Jiri to earn a living in pro basketball (somewhere)? Tough love works.
- At no time do i feel comfortable with Mike Taylor. Ok, maybe if we're up by 16. But he scares the hell outta me. Its like dating the unbelievable hot girl you have no reason dating...she's mean and will burn you 3 different ways, but its the best you're gonna get. The highs are high. The lows.....too frequent.
- I feel utterly and completely comfortable with Wesley Johnson. When he touches the ball i just feel good. He needs to touch the ball a lot. A lot more.
- Even though playing time is inconsistent - you just know the exposure for Dodi and Corey is going to pay off the next 3 years.
- I figured it out - Caesar is a modern-day Richard Evans. Totally doesn't belong out there as much as he is....but you just love his motor. I genuinely enjoy watching him play his role.
- the "I chose Iowa State" ad. Chiz walks away with the coolest "I chose Iowa State. How bout you?"....not even close. And the JP "I chose Iowa State, how bout you?" just cracks me up.
On to the home stretch - easy NIT bid given Mac's coaching and exposure of so many players throughout the first 3/4 of the season. We could win 2 in the Big 12 too.
Go cyclones!

We were up by 18, and I wasn't even comfortable.

I was sitting there during halftime thinking that McD must be just hammering way on his kids about the importance of coming out and playing the second half as hard or harder than the first. Take nothing for granted.

I still can't get enough of watching Mac coach, and how he rewards players. I seem to remember a tough defensive stand by Jessan Gray in the beginning of the game that sent the ball out of an OU's players hands and out of bounds. On the ensuing time-out, Mac ran out onto the court and almost looked like he was going to hug Jessan. This guy loves it here!

Even bigger with no rebounds and two points from Wesley, we survived against a thug team. Last year Neal shot our hearts out and we lost 82-81. What a change.

Fortunately for the good guys, OU missed some big 3 point attempts. If a couple of those would have been good (like last year), it could have easily been a different outcome.

That attempt from the top of the key from Neal when we were up 4 would have been huge.

All I have to say is after the game... Taylor asked me if I'd trade feet with him... mainly because his were sore. I told him mine were much slower than his so he prolly didn't want to do that... but yeah... I felt cool.

It was good to see Clark pick it up. He was really after it in the first half. Unfortunately the Mike Taylor Show didn't schedule any stops in Clarktown in the second half.
Hubalek was just lights out. Taylor has helped us sneak back into a couple of games down the stretch, but we are dependant on Hubalek getting us started in the first few minutes of games.
