What college program would you root for?

You wake up tomorrow and the Iowa State Cyclones don't exist. In fact, you have no memory of ISU, unfortunately. Poof, it's all gone.

I know...I know...take a deep breath if you need it - it's a tough pill to swallow.

Yet the one thing you do know, when you wake up it's your task for that day to pick a college athletic program to become an avid fan for - through thick and thin. Proximity to you is of no concern, so you're not "forced" to choose or not choose a program based on distance from its campus.

Also gone from your memory is any past knowledge of all college football programs. You'll no longer remember you hate the Huskers for their beat-downs of ISU. You won't recall Hampton upset ISU in the NCAA tournament. And yes, your hatred toward Iowa wouldn't exist in your memory banks, as much as you want it to. Any knowledge you want about a collegiate program would need to be researched by yourself and you'd be unaware of your previous bias for/against any programs.

So what program would you choose? What factors would go into your decision?

This should be a fun, hypothetical discussion.

Re: What college program would you root for?

Easy - I would pick Indiana since I am a grad school alum there.

Arrived in STL via Ames, IA & Bloomington, IN!

Florida. They win National Titles. It's a little easier rooting when everything is smooth sailing.

As much as it pains me to say under your scenario, it would probably be Iowa.

Reason being, I love going to college football and basketball games and rooting for Iowa (I just puked in my mouth) would allow me to attend those games live.

Unless you can think of another team within 2 hours...and Drake doesn't count.

Re: What college program would you root for?

Another easy one for me. I would have been a die-hard K-State fan since that is where most of my family has gone to school at and I was born in Manhattan. We moved to Iowa when I started 1st grade and in high school decided to go to school at ISU (in-state tuition, good academic program) so now I cheer for the Cyclones in everything, since it is now MY school. If ISU did not exist at all I would have gone to K-State. I still root for K-State in most things except when they play us.

Chizik: "One thing that I’d encourage our fans…I want them to be the loudest stadium in the Big 12. I don’t care…I want Jack Trice stadium to be the loudest in the Big 12 and I think that creates homefield advantage.... I want to stress to everyone…I want this place to be juiced up. They bought 36,000 season tickets so there is a passion there…don’t hide it…let it out. I want there to be a passion in the stadium."

I-S-U!

Colorado State in Fort Collins for two reasons; I enjoyed my campus visit there and more importantly because they occasionally make Colorado look BAD in football and I can't stand CU. Go RAMS!!

Proximity doesn't matter...so it need not be someone close.

I second CSU. Good tailgating, land grant university, arrogant rivals wear black and gold. Campus is about an hour north of a capitol city (although it's on I-25 instead of I-35). Good people.

Even if the point of me rooting for someone doesn't allow me to go to their games? Or can I have a magical jet to take me to all the events?

And who would you choose 22?

Arizona

If ISU did not exist I would have ended up at Arizona. Would be rooting for the Wildcats.

Oklahoma State. Their fans have been some of the best in the Big 12 at the tournaments in Kansas City. They've enjoyed some success in basketball, but they've struggled to find consistency in football, just like our beloved Clones.

Re: What college program would you root for?

It's between Texas and USC for me.

Tradition is rich for both schools in football. Both have performed very well as of late in basketball too, Texas with an edge yet USC surging.

USC has some amazing facilities, including their new basketball arena. Both have produced some fantastic athletes of late and have some great ones in their programs - looking at football and men's basketball.

Carroll and Floyd are a great pair of coaches as are Brown and Barnes. All are respected around the coaching fraternity. And namely, Carroll, Floyd and Brown have overcome some demons on their way to success.

Carroll struggled in the NFL and was basically booted out of the league. Brown failed to win the big game until '05 and '06. Floyd enjoyed a nice college stint only to not enjoy his stay with the Bulls - now has USC surging in basketball.

I enjoy and respect both programs equally and would need to think more about it in order to choose between them.

the wifes a Gamecock, and I really do enjoy my little giggle every time I say their name ... but I'd probably have to go for a tailgate tour around the midwest to establish which one to call mine - sans Ames gras lot, where is the best tailgating in the Big 12?

I'd probably go with Arizona State
1. Because I almost went to school there (chose the good guys instead)
2. It's warm.
3. The girls.
4. The girls.
