    Re: Daytona 500

I agree with all the live comments! I had the chance to go the Las Vegas motor speed way (I think it was either in 98 or 99). The environment at the track is amazing. No it's not all red necks and wife beaters. There are everyday hard working people there having a blast! Think of it like a full week of tailgating followed by a 4 hour sporting event, followed by a 4 hour grill off. If you have chance to go to one of these live, take it, you will love it.

I cant wait for the race to start. Go Gordon, Denny Hamlin and Casey Mears. Too bad my boy Vickers didnt make the race.

If any of you wanna try your hand at racing, I'll rent you my car for a day to try it out on dirt. Any takers?

I will be cheering for all of Roush Racing drivers, mainly Biffle. I've started to follow the races as Roush Industries is one of my biggest customers and need to know this stuff. Keep an eye out for 3M's #16 in 6 cup races this year and all Busch Series races.

    Formula One?

I can agree that rally is intersting to watvh but you must be kidding about F1. Formula 1 is the MOST boring sport to watch. There are no cahllenges and, therefore, no passing. It's just a bunch of prima donnas lifting their noses in the air and complaining about the track. I've been to a F1 race and the only relief was watching the Brazilians spend inordinate amounts of money to get drunk in the stands. Other than that --- pfffffft.

World Rally is different. It truly is amazing what those drivers can do; no excuses. I saw one race where the fog was so thick that the headlights became a problem due to reflected glare so the driver turned off his headlights -- effectively closing his eyes -- and drove solely on his navigator's notes. They had a tv camera in the car so it was no joke. You could see nothing but white outside the window and the driver had the pedal to the metal all the time. Amazing!

NASCAR isn't that bad as you can read the paper or a book while listening. When something interesting happens, you can watch the replay.

I want to thank the guys at Dupont, Chevy, Hendrick Racing, NASCAR, CBS, Daytona Motor Speedway, my mama, the good Lord, Frito Lay, Home Depot, Lowes, UPS, Target, Wal-Mart, K-Mart...

Can't wait for baseball and football players uniforms to look like the outfield fence at Sec Taylor.... I'll get a good chuckle out of the first NFL player who tries to add lib and insert a promotional reference to his sponsor... That will be high comedy!!

    Re: Daytona 500

I don’t care for NASCAR because it has sucked out just about all of the money for sponsorships out side of any other forms of racing.

I also get a huge laugh when they say these guys are world class athletes. I watch Daytona just because it is DAYTONA, other than that it a huge snooze fest.

How the hell can someone that is 70 years old still be considered somewhat competitive? And even remotely try to qualify??????
Nothing against the dude, but in any other form of racing he would not even make it into the paddock.

Oh yeah, I’ve raced at Daytona. Be back in 3 weeks Trap speed at 183MPH on two wheels. NASCAR SUCKS. I guarantee you I could switch place with any nascar dude and I could turn times within a second of their times; while they would not even be able to qualify on a motorcycle. FACT

Nascar isn't a sport. The drivers aren't athletes. Nascar is worse than socker. And soccer sucks.

I thought NASCAR fans were the uneducated.
I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone.

    Re: Daytona 500

I'm getting a good laugh at some of these post. I'm not going to argue the athletics, I'm not going to argue the skill, etc. But what I find funny is people insist on coming into this thread and start bashing things that haven't even been discussed by people that have been posting things they like about NASCAR.

Ok, it's not for everyone, that's fine. Different strokes for different folks. But why come in and start bashing something that fellow CF members enjoy??

    Re: Daytona 500

Ok, now that I'm off my soap box - the Busch brothers are looking really strong so far. It looks like Kurt may be the car to beat today. That and we haven't really seen a significant caution yet, so far they've all stayed very clean.
While I would love to see Jr. find a way to win he just hasn't look like the force that he has in the past years.
Should be fun to see who can dial in their cars for the last half of the race.

    Re: Daytona 500

Well, forget that last post about no major cautions.

EDIT: only really 2 in the crash. But they were running 1st and 2nd.
