Re: MLB: Best division?

Sounds like the Twins have quite a few fans on here. I hope they make it to the world series. As for the Yankees......Well they can go you know where and take the Hawks with them. I don't think much of the yankees at all. I like the Yanks about as much as i want to get AIDS or testicular cancer.

The Twins are looking at putting Sidney Ponson in the rotation over Matt Garza. Liriano is also out for the year....and he was the main reason the Twins got back into it last year. I will be shocked if they finish any higher than third in the Central, and they coul fall behind Cleveland as well.

Anyway, I suspect most of the people saying the AL Central are midwest homers. It may be the most competetive, but not the "best".

You're right about the first thing you said. That was my mistake.

As far as the second, I don't think you make much sense. The NL East, West, and Central may be more competetive because lots of teams can win around 80 games and be in the hunt.

Speaking of midwest homers, the only reason the NL Central got a vote was because of the Cub and Cardinal fans on here. At least I hope. That's the only justification I can think of.

I was basing my "homer" comment on the posts. I hadn't even looked at the ratings. At least an argument can made for the AL Central. But over 20% voted for the NL Central. I wasn't going to vote until I saw that. I voted for the NL West. Go DBax!

But homerism aside, this is one of the more wide open seasons. It seems any team that would be considered a preseason playoff favorite has one or two glaring weaknesses. It will probably come down to which team stays healthy through the season.

Man, a Twins lovefest on this board huh? I voted NL Central because of overall depth of the division. Cubs, Cardinals, and Astros are all going to be pretty solid. Plus the division has 6 teams, doesn't that count for something?? In all seriousness, the divisions look pretty balanced to me this year.

Re: MLB: Best division?

don't forget the Brew Crew. No they aren't my team, but they did have streaks of brilliance last year... only to suck for a streak to. Anyway, they add to the depth, and the Stros always seem to be in the hunt in Sept. dunno how they do it.

Actually, no, the Twins got back into it AFTER Liriano went down for the count. Yah, they went on their something like 30-2 run while Liriano was healthy, but the White Sucks record was something like only 2 games worse and the Tiggers was only a game worse. The Twins didn't so much "make" their move as much as the Sucks and Tiggers couldn't hold onto their groove.

GO TWINS!!! (Followed closely by the Mets)

This year the best will be the NL central.
This year the Cubs will win it all!

How is going 30-2 or whatever not getting them back into it? There's no effin' way the Twins get into the race without Liriano. Meanwhile, the Sox pitching staff was just plain crap yet they still won 90 games. Games mean the same no matter when they occur. Liriano is the reason the Twins made it. BRadke to a lesser extent.

Do you really think Cubs/Cards/Astros/Brewers > Tigers/Twins/Indians/White Sox?

Their division winner won 83 games last year. Did they get THAT much better?

It is quite a leap to say at least 2 of hte teams from the Central will make the playoffs when no more than 2 can make it. In addition, based upon past preformance you cannot discount the AL East Team that doesnt win the division getting the wild card. Both the Yanks and Sox have a great shot at the playoffs.

Because in that hot stretch the Twins gained a total of 1 game on the Tigers and 2 games on the White Sox, making them 11.5 games behind the Tigers and 10.5 games behind the White Sox. In that 30+ game stretch. They didn't actually start making up games until late July-early August (and Liriano was out by then).
