Re: Home opener Thursday Aug. 30

Anyone know if our non conference games will be night games again? I'm sure the Iowa game wouldn't be, but what about the others?

I love it!

Nothing like taking Thursday afternoon and Friday off for the 1st game of the season.

Hated it. Didn't get home until 1:30 that night last year, had to work the next day and the people sitting for us were less than happy. Bad tailgate since we had to rush out of work...

I can't believe they're doing this again. The returns I heard about were maybe 80-20 against.

It's not fan friendly, it's not family friendly - it's a bad idea. Especially if there's no tv involved.

Re: Home opener Thursday Aug. 30

As a student, it's great. It's a nice break in the week before the weekend officially starts, those of us who are big college football fans are able to see more games on Saturday, and a lot of students can go home if they'd like becuase of the long weekend.

I understand how it would be a pain for season ticket holders who have a lengthy drive, though.

I remember that at the football rally before the season started that Bret Meyer told us to skip Thursday's classes, I didnt listen to him. But I will this year!!!

I did, and had 2 teachers who gave pop quizes! I think if the university wants to do things like this, they need to work with teachers and make them understand that classes are not going to be full for a good reason!

Tell me these types of decisions don't scream irony.

We can't have a NCAA D1 football playoff - because the "students would miss too much school".

But we'll schedule a Thursday night game where tons will skip class Thursday and skip Fridy, or go hungover. That goes for the players as well - don't think they'll be in class Thursday - afternoon at least. And would you want to be in class Friday after playing a game 12 hours earlier?

Teachers understand this. That was probably the reason there were quizzes. Some teachers like to reward the students who show up when a lot of people don't.

It happens a lot the day or two before spring break, too. This will actually be my second year in a row that I have an exam the Friday before spring break.

Agreed, if you can you must take off early Thursday to enjoy the tailgate, and just remove Friday from the equation by ignoring work that day. That's how I did it last year and had a blast, of course my friends were at work, so I cooked and drank for 3 hours before they showed up. Maybe they didn't show up and I just imagined them after my 9th or 10th beverage. Anyway, my friends and imaginary friends all agree that one Thusday night game is fun for the kids.

No, they dont understand it. If they understood it, they would not punish the students who dont make it to class. I understand they want to reward the kids who do go, but since this is out of our control, dont hurt the students who do not show up.
