Would you be ok with cheating...
A friend and I were discussing this: Would you be okay with Iowa State cheating in either basketball or football to win or play for a national title?
Here are the circumstances: - No one, including the NCAA, finds out until years later (like what happened with Michigan basketball or USC football)
- What if there was no NCAA post-season ban penalty? What if there was a 2 year penalty?
- Iowa State would at least play for a national title and possibly even win one.
My thought was that if there were no post-season bans and the revocation of the trophy/banner, I would almost be okay with it.
I know most of us are moral people, but I also know most of us would kill for a shot at a national title.

Re: Would you be ok with cheating...
The embarrassment that would come along with that might outweigh the glee from playing for a national championship.
We could have no room to criticize another program for the rest of our lives.
"Ha ha, you lost to Northwestern again."
"Yeah, remember when you cheated your way to a championship?"
It'd be like Barry Bonds bragging to Hank Aaron.

If the so called 'cheating' ended with no post-season bans or the revocation of the trophy/banner, then it wasn't really cheating. More of a violation. Had we won the championship last season, would the Hubalek situation have been any different? Technicallly we did cheat.

It'd be like Barry Bonds bragging to Hank Aaron. True, but Barry Bonds' name will soon be in the record book for most homeruns in a career. 20 years from now no one will know he used steroids to get many of those homers (assuming he never gets charged or anything).

I beg to differ. This era in baseball is forever tainted and will be notorious for being the "Steroid Age."
To validate this, one has to look no further than Mark McGwire's attempt to get in the Hall of Fame this year.

It'd be like Barry Bonds bragging to Hank Aaron. Yeah, I would be quite disappointed if I found out we had to cheat to get to a Championship. I would hope that no fan would ever want his or her team to cheat their way to the top. You got to earn it the right way!

Re: Would you be ok with cheating...
I would rather win outright and know we got there because of hard work. You feel good when you earn it.

It's only cheating if you get caught.

Re: Would you be ok with cheating...
If Iowa State did compete for a National Title, you know that the DM Register would send their crack investigative reporter, Tom Witosky (or is that their investigative reporter on crack) to sniff out some impropriety.
I would probably prefer to win a National Title without cheating. I wouldn't want to give The Register the satisfaction of finding something...

Re: Would you be ok with cheating...
Cheating is no good, if anything, they would cheat to get there, then a couple years later it would be let out and everything would be taken out and either program would be in the crapper for years to come after that. It's not worth it and it is disgraceful.

I wouldn't want to go overboard but it would be nice to get a Kevin Durant type player up here for a year before he goes pro.

I wouldn't want to give The Register the satisfaction of finding something... oh yeah and like the DM Rag wouldn't make something up to "tarnish" ISU...99% of the newpapers in the nation would report what a great championship run it was by ISU - the Rag would say how Gene Chizik fed his kids steroids daily, founded a terrorist ring through Ames, and ate a baby.

Re: Would you be ok with cheating...
All depends on who did it. Not alot of people hold OU responseable for what Sampson did. They just forced him out.
Larry was forced out for something bad but was not cheating. If we beat MSU, we win a Nat'l Champ...ISU wrong or Larry?
"I believe the state color for Alabama should be primer," Larry the Cable Guy.
