That's the type of argument I HATE...especially about Iowa State. "We are Iowa State, we shouldn't expect much"....damn that pisses me off.

Re: Can we get some good sports radio in DM?
KXNO needs to go to ESPN Radio instead of Fox. The only thing good on Fox is Steve Saben and Cotlar is on during his time slot. I like Marty and Miller as well as Rome (Not the Callers).

Re: Can we get some good sports radio in DM?
I would LOVE to get ESPN Radio, but I have heard that it is pretty pricey and it would be tough to get the job done.
Let's start a new station. 1858 - The CY.
Morning Drive-Time = JP in the Morning
Mornings = Rockin with Geoffery
Afternoons = Hard Court with Gary Thompson
Drive Time Afternoon = Cyclone Nation with John Walters
Late Night = Johnny Orr's Playhouse

Re: Can we get some good sports radio in DM?
I can't stand listening to Cotlar, which is too bad because he does pull some good guests. And, I just about crapped myself when I heard today that he was named Iowa Sportscaster of the Year (or something like that).
On the rare occasions that I'm listening, I do find J Dub entertaining.
Looks like I may be in the minority, but I enjoy Rome's show. However, I do hate the majority of the callers.
Don't mind the Millers, but they don't resonate with me much either.
Marty's a complete d-bag and the reason I either switch channels or never tune in to begin with.

You can't just improve a city like that. Des Moines is what it is and we aren't exactly a mecca for sports. Get a major sports franchise and then things might pick up. Iowa Cubs, Iowa Stars? Who cares? You can only talk about Iowa and ISU so much.

Re: Can we get some good sports radio in DM?
Try living in Eastern Iowa. Davenport has nothing. I am so happy to be in the DSM area and getting to listen to that daily.
Rome has grown on me, Marty and Miller talk more than local stuff which is great and. Cotlar is a putz but at least does a real nice segment with Walters and Heft, and has good UNI and Drake people on.
We have it good here.

The lineup in Des Moines is not great. Even though many of you do not think so, Deace was and has been the best part of sports radio ever in Des Moines. He did his research and spent time on what people cared about most in this market, ISU, Iowa and football. We need someone to step up now into this market.

I liked Deace too but that ship has probably sailed.

I can tell you that Steve's overall sports knowledge is vast. His knowledge of college football, past and present, is impressive. He did a great job of promoting ISU athletics even though it seemed that it was not appreciated at times. He is sorely missed on sports radio, but he's not coming back.

Re: Can we get some good sports radio in DM?
I can't speak for Marty and Miller or Cotlar, but I would just like to thank each and every one of you for listening. The share numbers that KXNO pulled down in our last ratings book, all shows, are among the best for any sports talk radio show in the United States.
Hate on, my friends, hate on....and just keep listening and starting these threads once a week ;)
When something really does suck, no one talks about it. Shows get cancelled on TV not because of bad reviews, but because people aren't watching.
And for the Clone fan out there that is just bent that I havent talked about Babineaux's dog....I haven't brought up Jamal Tinsley's affairs, nor Kevin Cato's.

Your hawk beat a puppy to death, Jon. And you ignore it. Good job.

Cotlar & Co. - Larry, please take a frickin' stance on an issue (that doesn't involve the greatness of the Mo Valley)! You may offend a few people but that's okay because its an opinion. Don't just say "I think xxxx" and follow it with a declaration that others have an opinion and you aren't saying they are wrong, etc, etc. He can get some good guests though.
Out of Bounds - If that's still what it's called. I like listening to J-dub.
Jim Rome - Bad, bad radio. He sucks up to any guest on his show. Phenominal....(5 second silence). And don't get me started on his callers.
Jon Miller - Trying but I'm not buying it. I don't listen anymore. He makes people think he cares about the Clones but will take each and every opportunity to slam them.
M&M - Enough said.
I'd kill for a station with 1/2 local radio and 1/2 ESPN radio. With the local radio coming from a true STATE OF IOWA sportsfan. Now, we have the Drake Bulldogs color guy from Las Vegas, the founder of hawkeyenation.com, a guy from the east coast, and Ken Miller (I don't know his background). Ken Miller is a Canuck. Yeah when Deace left the sports radio scene all the ISU fans got screwed royally!

Get XM, they have fox sports and ESPN radio. You can choose what you want.

Re: Can we get some good sports radio in DM?
You should at least have a clue what you are talking about if you are going to criticize it. Jon Miller is the Hawk, Ken Miller, who you replied to is not. Cotlar does drive me nuts, especially when he talks pro wrestling, it is a sports network, not E Entertainment.
Anyone who likes J-Dub has no credibility, that guy can't even put a sentence together and he is on talk radio.
