Can we get some good sports radio in DM?
I would argue that 1460 has the worst possible radio lineup except for Out of Bounds.
Cotlar & Co. - Larry, please take a frickin' stance on an issue (that doesn't involve the greatness of the Mo Valley)! You may offend a few people but that's okay because its an opinion. Don't just say "I think xxxx" and follow it with a declaration that others have an opinion and you aren't saying they are wrong, etc, etc. He can get some good guests though.
Out of Bounds - If that's still what it's called. I like listening to J-dub.
Jim Rome - Bad, bad radio. He sucks up to any guest on his show. Phenominal....(5 second silence). And don't get me started on his callers.
Jon Miller - Trying but I'm not buying it. I don't listen anymore. He makes people think he cares about the Clones but will take each and every opportunity to slam them.
M&M - Enough said.
I'd kill for a station with 1/2 local radio and 1/2 ESPN radio. With the local radio coming from a true STATE OF IOWA sportsfan. Now, we have the Drake Bulldogs color guy from Las Vegas, the founder of hawkeyenation.com, a guy from the east coast, and Ken Miller (I don't know his background).
Re: Can we get some good sports radio in DM?
Cotler is a little annoying with the MO Valley. Cotler they are a mid major. Never will be anything more. Good teams and sometimes they will have a great team.
J Dub is good
I like Rome. Hate his annoying callers
Miller is Miller
M@M less annoying than original version.
Re: Can we get some good sports radio in DM?
I agree with that, but I happen to like Rome, some people don't but I think he is hilarious. Larry sways like the breeze, Fox stinks except for the Brick, when Bruno left I was hurt. Ken Miller tries, I like him. M and M really do try, but I feel that they talk down to us.
Re: Can we get some good sports radio in DM?
I couldn't agree with this post more. The whole DMR wrestling picture tirade that Marty was on yesterday really had me quickly reaching for the radio dial. What he was saying was really idiotic and Mark Hansen was right when he said he was embarrassing himself. A complete non-issue that went on for 2 hours. ( I kept flipping back hoping to hear some sports talk.)
ATTN: KXNO executives....
Williams and Blum's show they do on Sunday mornings on KASI would fit very nicely in the M and M time slot.

Listening to monkeys trying to play the harmonica would fit better than M&M...and I'm not talking about The Monkeys the musical group, I'm talking about actual monkeys.

Spanny, you are about the only person I know who likes Rome. Thank goodness I'm now at work when he's usually on the radio out here. I had enough of his long pauses, repeating EVERY SINGLE point 50 times until you want to throw up, and his monstrous ego while I was in Ames. The only good thing about him is that he hates Iowa, pretty funny stuff.

Hey Cotman, how about not giving yourself a nickname. How about coming up w/ something more original than someone's last name and "man" on the end of it. How about no more of "Sir" first name "the" last name. You're not Rob Schneider and this isn't early 90's SNL.
One more thing, don't laugh at your own jokes. You're the only one laughing.
Re: Can we get some good sports radio in DM?
Jon Miller did a real nice job with the ex-hawk Babineaux beating the puppy to death. How 'bout them hawks?
Re: Can we get some good sports radio in DM?
You forgot the constant "Oh yeah, turn that up man, that blues music freaking rocks!" It sounds like he's going to have the big O whenever he starts listening to anything bluesy.

Now that's funny SuperCyMan or did you come up with Sir Super the Cy?
Re: Can we get some good sports radio in DM?
Listening to the updates in the afternoon makes me cringe. How many times can we hear "As you well know" or some variation of that. The same copy is read every time an update is given. Yet it continues to be screwed up. It's brutal. He's been doing this long enough that the nervousness should be gone. It makes me wonder if a career change should be suggested.

I've railed on this before, but the absolute worst is when he sits there and listens to his blues music during the lead in, and doesn't get to the guest or get to the talking about sports. I mean, there have been lead-ins that go longer than a minute!! Of crap music that no one listens to! "Aww yeah"'s and "you know it"'s after lyrics of the songs are freaking annoying.

For the love, no kidding. I'd rather see a comeback radio version of Jeff Stell and Paul Kix's cheezy "Triple Threat Sports Show" from the ISU TV network than most of the crap we're forced to listen to. At least you heard some decent conversation and topics on there. Only years later during the national anthem at an ISU game when he removed it did I realize that Stell only wore that backwards black Nike cap all the time to mask his freakishly receding hair line at age 21. Thanks for leaving that on during the show Jeff!
Re: Can we get some good sports radio in DM?
It's Des Moines, Iowa, what kind of programming should we expect? I almost think we are lucky to have what we have.
Re: Can we get some good sports radio in DM?
Yeah, real lucky. It doesn't take too much to switch over to ESPN Radio instead of Fox Sports Radio, even on a local station like ours. I think that's what most people hate. That and the bluesfest in the mornings. I second the nomination for a triumphant Paul Kix return to stardom.
