Basketball players playing football
I was watching a story about Antonio Gates and got to thinking which Cyclone basketball players would do well playing football. Gates, if you remember was a basketball star at Kent State and turned his attention to football after graduating. He is now a pro bowl tight end for the Chargers. For some reason, I think if Rahshon Clark and Wesley Johnson each put on 15-20 pounds, they could be solid receivers with their good hands. I could have seen Aaron Agnew playing a tackle position on either side of the ball. Anybody think of some others?

Re: Basketball players playing football
Adam Haluska got recruited to play football by some schools when he was said to be transferring from ISU.
Lebron James would make a great WR/TE
I see Rahshon more so than Wesley.
Also how about Dudley from BC? Undersized PF. Great TE??

Re: Basketball players playing football
Wesley Johnson might get killed playing basketball but Rahshon could do well. Cory Johnson could be a decent TE.

Re: Basketball players playing football
Rahshon doesn't have big enouhg hands to play WR, it hurts him in bball sometimes.
When all is said and done, more is said than done -
Re: Basketball players playing football
LeBron played against a few of my friends from Cleveland. They claim he was an outstanding receiver but rarely saw action as they knew what a basketball star he was going to be.
Seems like heady point guards in the Steve Nash, Jason Kidd mold would make viable QBs.

A few months back, Brent Blum wrote a piece about this same subject for CN. Here is a a link. http://iowastate.scout.com/2/570512.html -
Re: Basketball players playing football
yea Stevie Johnson was a solid player that was a basketball player, granted his Dad was a Denver Bronco, but it could work, I think we need to bring on these guys as punt and kick blockers like one of the announcers on TV said, it would be a great idea to bring on a guy like Wesley or Rahshon as a kick blocker

Sorry Wallace, I hadn't read that article by Bret Blum. I can't stand that kid, he annoys the **** out of me. I remember that show he used to be on that was on the ISU network or whatever and he thought he knew everything about sports but looked like a **** half the time.

Anyways, the all-time basketball-to-football team would be (3-4 defense and yes, I'm really bored ):
QB: Jamaal Tinsley or Will Blalock
HB: Kenny Pratt (spinning dervish, a la Troy Davis)
FB: Kantrail Horton (thick, ultimate team guy)
WR: Jeff Grayer, LaFester Rhodes, Wesley Johnson (all explosive athletes with big hands)
TE: Tyray Pearson (wouldn't be much of a blocker, but tall, fast, crafty, good big target around the end zone)
Tackles: Andrew Skoglund, Victor Alexander
Guards: Aaron Agnew, Jared Homan
C: Jordan Dykstra (he's gonna be a big boy)
DE: Marcus Fizer (would be unstoppable), Damion Staple (relentless)
DT: Kelvin Cato (he's about 270)
LB: Stevie Johnson, Emmanuel Negedu (hey, a guy can dream)
MLB: Curtis Stinson (lifts over 400 lbs, adequate speed and great awareness), Shawn Bankhead (great defensive instincts!)
CB: Dedric Willoughby, Michael Nurse (skinny speed guys)
FS: Shane Power (solid height, solid and strong)
SS: Fred Hoiberg (it's Fred freakin' Hoiberg, he could play any position)

Clark does not have good hands.
