Alford Lobbying, is he serious?

http://desmoinesregister.com/apps/pb...insider&lead=1

I'm sure most of you have read this, but common.....is Alford serious? a 16-12 team in a conference that has two outstanding teams and the rest either mediocre or bad thinks it should make the dance? Iowa's RPI is at 80. Excuse me while I go get a violin and play it while Alford whine's and kisses up to lobby for a bid. Unless they win the big 10 tourney, its NIT for them. Maybe if he gel's his hair real nice they'll let Iowa in.

Re: Alford Lobbying, is he serious?

Iowa has no big wins besides Indiana in the conference and some pretty bad non-conference losses (Arizona State, Drake, UNI to name some.) Plus I don't think their road record is very good. Anything shy of a Big 10 Tourney championship I can't see how they can get in.

I think if they win 5 in a row they have a chance. Tonight @ Penn State, Saturday at home vs. Illinois, and then 3 games in their tournament. They always somehow do well in the Big 10 tournament, so I wouldn't count them out, but I hope Penn State beats them tonight, that'd be hilarious.

I agree that they are not even lose to being in right now, but a good run could help. Alford should save the pleading until his team gets it together.

Exactly, instead of whining, why doesn't his team just show up and prove they deserve it.

Re: Alford Lobbying, is he serious?

This is Alford we're talking about - is he ever serious? What can ya honesty trust about him?

Having said that, any coach would make a case for his team if they're on the bubble. Do I like that lobbying can possibly help a team get in? No, of course not. It should all be settled on the court.

Yet the selection committee is made up of humans. While certain criteria needs to be met, when it comes down to the final handful of teams, sometimes emotions come it to play - I'm sure of it.

But how would it be bad if they got in? They get in, all excited and "in your face Cyclone fans". Then they get bounced in the first round yet again.

Fitting.

I hope they make the 64/65 play-in game and are paired up with Northwestern St.

He is like a slick used car salesman (the hair gives it away) trying to unload a Yugo for $20,000. He must figure if he works it long enough someone will eventaully listen to his B.S.

Perhaps if his lobbying works, Iowa won't have a reason to get rid of him and we can look forward to many more years of his mediocracy.

Re: Alford Lobbying, is he serious?

If it were the Clones who had a chance to finish third in the Big XII with a marginal overall record wouldn't you want GMac to fight/lobby for his team? The Big 10 may suck, but if they finish third they are probably getting in.

If we were looking at the possibility of finishing 18-12 with a 10-6 conference record, we'd be lobbying too.

Re: Alford Lobbying, is he serious?

If I had a guess he is lobbying so hard because his job depends on it, I mean really what has the guy done. I think if he doesn't go so far with this team he's finished!!!
