I'm curious as to what our chances are of sneaking into the NIT Tourney this year. I felt at the beginning of the year that a trip to the NIT would be lucky, but I can't help but wonder if it's a possibility now. The chance to finish in the middle of the Big 12 combined with a win or two in the Big 12 Tournament makes me hopeful. Anyone else think so?

It's possible, but our RPI is still in the 120's. We'd definitly have to win vs. TT and probably 2 in the tournament. With the NCAA's+ the NIT, 96 teams play in the postseason. We'd probably have to get close to the top 100 RPI to even be mentioned.

They might give us an edge knowing we'll get a great fan showing. Thats helped us in the past.

I think either a win Saturday and one win in the tourney or a loss to Texas Tech and two wins in the tourney and we could get in. A win Saturday and two wins in the tourney, and I think we're almost a lock.

The NIT really didn't like how we ended last year. We just need to end strong this season!

We're currently in 9th but with a win we will probably finish 7th or 8th and possibly as high as 6th. I would guess on 7th with a win which would mean we'd probably play Nebraska in the first round. Whoever we play in the first round we have a pretty good chance of winning. Unfortunately in the second round we are guaranteed to be playing Kansas, Texas A&M or Texas

Why are you people already talking NIT???? what the hell has gone so wrong with our bball program that "FANS" are talking NIT before the regular season is even over and before the big 12 tourney starts...Let's just root for our team and have a good showing for a big game against bobby knight's boys and then focus on winning the big 12 tourney. ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN PEOPLE, that is why the play the damn thing...I get sick of this "meh" look at our team and program, I know no one is giving up on them, but don't sell them short either. Even if they only won 1 conference game all year (much like our fball team did in this disappointing past season), they still need the same support as a tinsley/fizer led team that only lost 5 games all year.
IF we are eliminated from the big 12 tourney, THEN start talking about the NIT all you want, but until then...don't say "i am just being realistic"...bcuz these guys need all our support and you never know what may happen people.
That's what makes a truly great program and fanbase, having people there no matter and I thought I would hear something more what i'm saying on a website called "CYCLONE FANATIC"...It's sad to think we couldn't even fill JTS for DMac's last game...HILTON AND JACK TRICE STADIUM NEED TO BE PACKED ALL THE TIME, rain or shine - that's PART of what keeps a program steadily good. Our coaches in wrestling, football, women's bball, men's bball, etc... are all putting in the effort... JP and the athletic dept is definitely putting in the effort, so must the damn fans. NIT should be defeat for ISU bball, so we need to stop admitting defeat before it ever comes.

I don't know how the NIT works under the new leadership. But, historically, the NIT selection was influenced by the lobby effort of the U, the AD, the coach and the fans. I don't think it harmful to let it be known that we support our team no matter what the outcome - that we'll buy NIT tix and the team will play hard in that tournament, if that what it comes to. That said, I agree, it ain't over 'til it's over.

Well I hope we don't lobby for an appearance until after we're done playing the Big 12 season and tournament.
'Cuz premature lobbying didn't work out so well for Iowa.

it is getting harder and harder to get into the NIT. All the bubble teams that arent getting into the big dance will be in the NIT and we are not even in the bubble talk. We would have to win convincingly against TT and make some sort of epic run int eh Big XII tourney. but our track record of losing big and not having any convincing, legitimate wins really hurts us. maybe next year.

I did ,however, hear Dr.Tom talking bout how they have went away from the "lobbying" part of getting into the NIT.

| Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative. ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other." |
