Iowa State

Head Coach: Gene Chizik
Former Coach: Dan McCarney
Last Seen: Coaching linebackers and coordinating the Texas defense
The Skinny: One of the most coveted coordinators in the nation has finally landed his first head coaching job. Chizik has gradually climbed the ladder, bringing a winning attitude, a contagious energy and an attacking defense to Central Florida, Auburn and most recently Texas. His last two years in Austin have broadened his familiarity with the Big 12, while his last five seasons as a coordinator have exposed him to a ton of big game situations — the type of games the Cyclones expect to be playing in within a couple of years now that they've joined forces with one of the sport's best defensive minds. Putting Out the Welcome Mat:LB Alvin Bowen. Last year's leading tackler in the Big 12 has the range and quickness to wreak havoc behind the line of scrimmage in Chizik's new defensive system.

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

Re: Fox Sports New Coaches

I LOVE Alvin Bowen but I hope to god he is not the big 12's leading tackler again, because that would more than likely mean our defense is on the field too much (USUALLY harder to score when offense isn't on the field.) And I also hope someone on the D-line will take some of those tackles, because THAT would mean it would be more like 2005 where we actually got some pressure, sacks, and tackles behind the line of scrimmage, rather than 5, 10, 15 yards downfield.

I am very pumped about the Chizik era for football at ISU.

In two years, Alvin might set the school record for tackles.

EIU is the other Okoboji University for serious students and home of Captain Kirk who pilots the Enterprise on its Trek through the Universe for finding his next great job. Captain, beware of your Superbowl.
