I swear I was told most of it was gone.
They demolished one wing of Helser plus some of the main hallway when they built the Union Drive Community Center four years ago, but most of the building is still there. It sounds like every year for the last decade they've said they were going to tear Helser down, and every year for the last decade Helser has had hundreds of students living there because Friley and the suites can't nearly hold everybody. Enrollment will have to drop before Helser gets demolished, I think.

Here's a map of the UDA area:

Yeah, by 'significantly further south' I meant 300-500 feet, but that's pretty significant in terms of a building's length. You can see from the map that if Friley were to reach all the way around to the land that the suites are on now, that would be a very large addition to the building.

It was about 6 feet tall, it was quite amazing. It was a good time.
Yea, '01-'02 sounds about right from what I remember of the story. Last year, I heard of maybe a 200 person snowball fight, but nothing of the one I was told about. The one I'm thinking of, there was a ton of collateral damage to cars and windows. I think the snowball fight may have gotten broken up, but I'm not sure.

I know it most likely won't happen but... I can dream can't I? No literary theory? Ohhhhh, I'm getting excited just thinking about not having to go to that class.

All work and no play makes me a dull boy.

cool, thanks for the map - it all makes much more sense now.

and unfortunately it looks like the crow crap trees must still be there on the south end of the former field...

Sorry guys, or gals, but it looks like this "blizzard" is not living up to the hype - in the Ames area. We'll be lucky to end up with 3-4", more likely 2-3" which will definately not be enough to cancel school... I'm very surprised they canceled afternoon classes, especially when nothing had even happened yet besides rain. Far worse storms have hit town and we've had school.

Chizik: "One thing that I’d encourage our fans…I want them to be the loudest stadium in the Big 12. I don’t care…I want Jack Trice stadium to be the loudest in the Big 12 and I think that creates homefield advantage.... I want to stress to everyone…I want this place to be juiced up. They bought 36,000 season tickets so there is a passion there…don’t hide it…let it out. I want there to be a passion in the stadium."

Back somewhere during the period of the late 80's to mid 90's when I was at ISU, there was a huge snowball fight between the residence hall students who lived around Linden on the north side of Lincoln Way and the Frat kids on the south side of Lincoln Way. I wasn't a member of a frat, and I didn't live in a residence hall, but I happened to be walking over in that area on the north side of Lincoln Way, so I threw some snowballs at the frat kids. Lincoln Way became unpassable due to snowball fire, so the cops had to come in and shut it down...

I only have one class in the morning, but it'd be really nice it if it were cancelled!

Deep within the heart of Iowa, a storm is brewing...
... the winds of change ripple throughout the vast fields of corn surrounding the small college town of Ames.

The Gene Chizik era of football continues, and, with it, a renewed attitude of pride, determination, and success.

This is Cyclone Football.

Classes are on are normal. Thankfully one of my professors emailed us and said that it is stupid to have class today and canceled. So check your email and WEB CT!

Damn! That means that every place I lived while at ISU back in the 80s has been torn down. (Storms, Helser, Walnut Str., old house in the Fareway parking lot and Hillsdale Trailer Park.) I must be the Kiss Of Death for homes.
