I am going to guess that we have class today as a make-up for yesterday, when it turned out there really wasn't any need to cancel classes in the afternoon. The interstates may be closed, and all other Ames/Des Moines area schools may be closed, but by God, we WILL have class today at ISU! | | |

We want the rest of the family to be safe, but it sucks that they wont be able to see him dive into that little cake.

Our little girl had her first 2 weeks ago and the cake-dive was very anticlimatic. She carefully pulled the cake apart with index finger and thumb and ate with almost no mess.

Our work hasn't cancelled - I don't think it ever has. Only those of us who are under 35 made it in, though. My husband is stuck in Albert Lea for work (can't drive home since the highways/interstates are all closed), so I just went out every few hours all last night and shovelled my path around my car. I got out fine this morning!

Loved it when the email that people could leave under "manager's discretion." Well I only live like 4 miles across town and at the time it was just wet roads so me and 3 other guys that all lived in town volunteered to hold the place down while some people that lived in town (1 just minutes from the office!) all fled. Finally at 4pm when it started to blow snow and stick I took off which I'm glad I did because by 5pm it was pretty nasty.
Today is the first time I've ever seen Wells close everything down but then again I think a lot of the big wigs that make the calls are at some conference in Florida right now so they just hear blizzard and can't see it. I'm not complaining, 3 day weekend, woooohooooo!

my class for the day got cancelled, so it doesnt matter to me either way, but it seems very dumb when just about every school and many businesses in a 75 mile radius are closed, I-35 north of ames closed, and every road within 50 miles listed as travel not advised, yet ISU remains open.

Why the #%*#&% didn't ISU cancel classes? I tried 3 different roads (got stuck twice) and 2 hours trying to get in for my classes! While they say commuters should use their best judgment - and teachers should take that into consideration - I still lost points today because of this weather and teachers' policies. *grumble*
Sorry. I felt like ranting for a bit. all better now.

When I went to ISU I had morning Stat Lab in Snedecor. Wind chill was at least 10 to 20 below. I had to go (besides there were some cute girls in my lab). I lived in old RCA at the time. By the time I got back to the dorms, my ears were frostbitten. The same day I had Stat in Town Engineering at 4:00. Needless to say, I ended skipping the rest of my classes (as did most who lived on my floor) that day...

They jumped the gun yesterday and it turned out that at least within the city of Ames they could have held classes yesterday afternoon. Today everything is canceled. It is one thing to have class when some public schools cancel, but when there are tons of major businesses in Ames and Des Moines canceling, that's another story. Half the interstates in Iowa are closed, including from Ames north. Thats probably for good reason. And yeah, we all now how that commuter students use your best judgment thing works out. So a big up yours to ISU for putting student safety first today.... You know if Jamie Pollard was in charge of this, we wouldn't have a problem.
