IF we win on Saturday...

We're probably looking at no less than a 7th place finish in the Big 12, which honestly has to be considered a huge success this year. Normally I would never say that (and this year will probably be the only time) but considering where this team was at to begin the year and with the guys we're bringing back it would be a tremendous accomplishment. It would be 4 places higher in the Big 12 than we were picked at the start of the year, we would have 3 true road wins against major conference opponents (MN, NU, Mizz) and we'd be in a good position in the Big 12 tourney for a win as well. We'd play the #10 seed (which is going to be NU again probably) for a chance to beat them 3 times in one year. Regardless of what happens in the tournament, if we win on Saturday we have the chance to finish with a winning record and a better conference record than last season which would really cause me to tip the cap to coach McDermott. He's made some mistakes this year, but there are so many positives for the PROGRAM I just don't think they can be ignored.

I totally agree, with the strides that we made this year and the incoming class for next year, I dont see this thing going anywhere but up.

Not only that, but the chance to get a win against a good team when it matters is important, too. Texas Tech is an NCAA-worthy team playing on the bubble and we have a great chance to play spoiler. We've been very inconsistent all year but a chance to end the conference season with a couple of consecutive wins, and especially to pick one up over a quality team like TTU, would be a major confidence booster for this team moving forward.

If we win, we'll be 7-9 in the conference. That is pretty much unbelievable, considering we were a consensus 11th place finishing team, and we had only 4 scholarships returning. And, we had NO guards returning (unless you count Jiri).

Re: IF we win on Saturday...

Hopefully it'll all play out that we could pick up a win against those boys from the Technical school and then maybe a win in the first round of the Big XII Tournament. That would make for a solid case for NIT eligibility, correct?

We'll be better next year, no doubt. The question is how much that will help in the Big 12. I expect every team, except Texas Tech, a&m, and Colorado, will either be as good (Texas, OSU) or better ( KU, Baylor, K-State, Nebraska, Missouri, Oklahoma). And i doubt a&m drops off that much with the recruiting class they're bringing in.

We need to not only get better, but get better relative to a quickly improving conference.

Impossible. NO ONE could ever be better than the BIG TEN!

Re: IF we win on Saturday...

I think we're going to see a lot of guys from KU go pro and that team will take a hit with depth and experience. That being said, their second team could have probably beat us by 15+ in the Phog but who knows.

I have to agree. When the conference starts to get too much talent it always ends up getting thinned out in the draft.

Texas will be down next year too if durant takes off. They still will have a lot of returning talent, but he has single handedly won most of their games for them this year.

not only would it be a big win fo the conference record, but it would guarantee a winning season, and not depend on a win in the tourney

Actually, unless KU has a deep run in the tourney I wouldn't be suprised to see everybody back next year. The guys who could go, Rush (not ready), Darrell Arthur (not ready) and Julian Wright (says he will stay for 3 years) might decide it's in their best interest to return. I guess you never know...
