Frustrated with journalism
OK--this is something that bugs me to death and I thought I'd come here and see if I can get some commiseration. Stating statistics (or whatever) in a misleading way. Here's from the DM Register:
Quote:
"I'm planning on playing in it next season, if not this year," Johnson said of the Cyclones making the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2004-05.
(Bold added.)
That's only 1 season (OK, it'll probably be 2 seasons by next season--but still). Is it just me? I think the phrase "for the first time since" implies that it's been a good while. Same thing from the Ames Tribune (gocyclones.com):
Quote:
FREE THROWS. ISU improved to 17-1 on the season when leading at the half and 11-0 when scoring at least 70 points. ... Iowa State won seven away or neutral-court games this regular season, the most since the 2004-05 team won seven.
(Bold added.)
OK--I just needed to get it off my chest. At least they didn't tell us that we scored the most points ever in stretch from the 300th to 436th seconds of a game played in the afternoon not in Hilton against a conference foe who's school name starts with a "K" sound and that has a mascot with fur (no turtles! .. ??) that used to be in the Big 8.:baffled5wh: :laugh8kb:
