I'm originally from Iowa and grew up a huge ISU fan and am now stationed out in Hawaii (It's tough but somebody has to be here). My neighbor noticed my Iowa plates and mentioned that he went to school at ISU so we spoke at length at the direction ISU is headed. Also the guard at my complex noticed I was wearing an ISU shirt and commented that his wife was a ISU alumni as well, and she was pretty down about Coach Mac leaving but he said she rebounded nicely when Chizik was announced as the new coach. And last but not least one of my co-workers is a ISU grad, and was a student during the "down" years at ISU when students went to the game just to drink! And mentioned that he was awestruck at the improvements of the facilities. Never thought that I'd find so many ISU fans on an island anywhere!
Someone sees you are a Cyclone fan and they say something to the tune of "You are an Iowa State fan?...IOWA STATE SUCKS"...I know I've had it happen to me a bunch.
What's everybodies comeback to this line? Me personally, I usually go with a classic momma one like: "So does your mom, but I'm not complaining!"
A couple of years ago at the Big 12 Tournament in KC we saw many kansas fans, after being eliminated, tear up their tickets for the final round instead of selling them to ISU fans... It was pathetic.
