License Plate Sightings

The discussion a while back on the number of ISU, SUI and UNI license plates got me wondering if my perception was correct that there were more ISU plates in Cedar Rapids than both Iowa or UNI plates. So I decided this morning to start counting the number I saw. Here are the initial results. All numbers were lower than usual, I guess because a lot of people are extending their holiday.

This morning on the way to work I saw 2 ISU plates, 1 SUI plate and 0 UNI plates. I was surprised by the low number, but I guess I was a little early for work.

Over the lunch hour I travelled just a couple miles round trip and saw 6 ISU plates, 0 SUI plates and 0 UNI plates.

So far would say my perception is being reinforced, but I'll try to keep counting.

Just remember the following:

Red and Yellow = Clone to the Bone fans
Purple and Yellow = UNI fans
Black and Yellow = EIU community fans ( probably wearing depends )
Blue and white = Cyclone fans

Jon Miller made a comment about these plates last week on his show, but I changed it to reflect reality and not Pukeye arrogance. That would make your percentage ISU plates skyrocket...

Yeah I dont see the plates as often. Cause there outdated and just dont fit with all vehicles.

I realize you are only referring to the Cedar Rapids area, but I did recently read something on one of the Des Moines television websites that had an official count and every plate listed in alphabetical order. The official count had Iowa edging ISU slightly, with UNI a very distant 3rd.

I went to NE Iowa for the holiday and i have a little progress report for you guys.



I-80 West of IC: I was on this route for about an hour and a half and i saw about even all the way to desmoines whic surprised me.



I-35 South of Ames: Once I got onto I-35 i saw the cardinal and gold plates started flowing like wine and only got better all the way to Ames. it continued this way for about a half hour outside of ames and then it evened back out.



NE Iowa as a whole: I would say it is 70/30 outside of DeckersSports in Mason City, it is actually pretty split in that store so whenever I&#39;m up there I will go there for all my apparell needs. on the way back it was about the same until i got a little further east towards IC on I-80 again and it went back to normal.

Tonight on the drive home after work and then on an evening trip the count was:



ISU plates: 7

SUI & UNI plates: 3 (I think one was a UNI plate, but it was difficult to see when driving into the sun, so I&#39;ve combined them.)



This is actually more lopsided in favor of the Cyclones than I thought it would be. Research continues.

Your count really isn&#39;t fair. Most of the would-be hawkeye plates are sitting idle in the McDonald&#39;s parking lots where the Iowa grads are working the late shift cleaning the fryers.

I would love to have an ISU plate except I know my brand new truck would be vandalized in my neck of the woods. Those Shmuckeye fans can be ruthless.

Get the plates and then get some video security cams and monitor 24/7. Wouldn&#39;t it be nice to not only get the plates but to put some shmuckeye thugs in jail.

Thursday afternoon report.

This morning was business as usual, although low numbers. The count was ISU 2, SUI 0.

But at noon, the Hawkeyes pulled out a stunner. They notch their first battle success by a 1-3 score. They hit with force, bang-bang-bang within a matter of seconds. I don&#39;t know if it had anything to do with the fact I was driving by K-Mart. I will leave that for others to speculate on.

I was considering expanding my research to gather data at specific locations. For example, a quick count of the cars in a HyVee parking lot would be interesting. Then maybe at a local watering hole. Or a survey of golf courses, both public and private may yield interesting results. But that&#39;s for another day. Or in other words, I&#39;m not going to make work out of this fun by going out my way.
