Duke-UNC finish
The game's almost over and Hansborough just got elbowed in the face. Billy Packer is tripping all over himself talking about how obvious it was that the Duke guy was going for the ball. Does anybody besides me think maybe it's not quite that obvious?
To me it looked like he had his arm pretty far out there for where the ball was.

Re: Duke-UNC finish
I want to know why he was even out there this late in the game.
Don't confuse hope for a plan. -
Re: Duke-UNC finish
And miss a chance to run it up on the Dookies?
It was really dumb.

Don't think that I don't respect the job that he has done, I just don't see him as the greatest coach ever. Although I am sure that the Kansas fans miss him, especially in March.

Re: Duke-UNC finish
I thought it looked more deliberate than what the two announcers were saying. Apparently the refs agreed.
That forearm/elbow came in pretty hard - plus he led with the forearm/elbow. I don't see many shot blockers leading with their elbow....
It was neat to see a pair of long-time coaches with great respect for one another calmly discussing the issue by themselves while the refs were doing their thing. Rarely ever see that.

Re: Duke-UNC finish
Yeah Billy Packard is an idiot. He made the comment " I don't see any intent in what happened." How the heck do you "see" intent?
That was a blatent hit on the part of the Duke player. The ball wasn't even close and the guys looking at the other player and leading with his elbow.

Re: Duke-UNC finish
I think it was deliberate as well. If he was trying to block his hand would have been extended. Packer said he was looking away toward the ball and so it couldn't have been deliberate. He was leading with his elbow there Packer...

Re: Duke-UNC finish
I'm waiting to see a replay of it....I shut the game off right before this happened, apparently.

Re: Duke-UNC finish
This doesn't have to do with the finish, but did anyone feel like there was a lack of buildup for this game on ESPN, most likely because it was on CBS? Not that I am complaining, but usually when Duke and NC play ESPN is all over for like a week.

Re: Duke-UNC finish
OK, just saw the replays.....I honestly don't think it was intentional. It looked like the Duke player went up for the block, but when he realized he was going to come down on Hansborough it appeared that he was bringing his arm down to either try to catch his balance or to catch his fall when he came down to the floor. Man, it was a hard hit, no doubt about that.

Re: Duke-UNC finish
Shot blockers go up with their hand open (extend the fingers). To me, this was quite an obvious hit to the face. If you look at his eyes, they are looking down at the UNC player's face, not up toward where the ball will be going.
Packer is a ******!

Re: Duke-UNC finish
I thought Gerald Henderson (the Duke player) jumped and his legs hit anoter player on his way up, and he threw his elbow back hitting Hansbrough because he was bracing himself for a nasty fall. I did not see any intent - he wasn't even looking at Hansbrough when he hit him.
-
Re: Duke-UNC finish
I don't recall whether his hand was open or closed, but I think it was his elbow that did the damage. He was looking down because Hansborough had just given him a pump fake, and hadn't come up with a shot yet.

Re: Duke-UNC finish
Knowing this rarely happens with great athletes, it was probably delibrate. C'mon that was a hard enough hit it would have made ultimate fighting highlight reel. Ask Dick Vitale. He will know.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative. ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."
