Altman to replace Alford at Iowa (rumor)
Katz has a couple sentences on this in ESPN the Magazine this month, print edition. Don't know about on-line.
This is interesting on a couple levels:
1. Altman's teams owned McDermott's in the vallley.
2. We would see if Dana can coach in a high mid major. He couldn't handle it in a major, when he was at Kansas State.
3. If it happens, I didn't think guys like Alford got fired. I didn't think that was the way the world worked.

Some posters need to apply for work at some newspapers for the subject titles they choose to go with.

We'll add (rumor) to it...to prevent folks from having a heart attack or something. -

Hmm...did anybody hear Anna Nicole died? I guess this question goes along with the theme of WTF?

For what he had at KSU, he did fine.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: Altman to replace Alford at Iowa (rumor)
I can back up the original post.
I listened to 810 WHB out of KC. They were talking with Matt Perault(sp) from 590 in Omaha. The main topic of conversation was that Alford was supposedly out at Iowa and that Altman was the successor. Perault even said he had asked Altman about and he said that "...nothing was definite."
Also, Altman said he was not "contacted" about the position. We know that means his people probably have, just not him.

If Altman was going to leave Creighton, which I don't think he will, he loves it there. I would he think he could go somewhere better than Iowa. I don't see this happening.
“One day we’ll be in here celebrating a Big 12 championship,” Rhoads said. “That I can promise you.” -

While I'd never say never, I too would be very surprised if this happened. As A-town stated, Altman loves it at Creighton, and has turned down equal or better opportunities to leave in the past. Also, Alford was just given an extension before this season, and brought in two new assistants, and has some decent classes coming in over the next two years. And while this year's team wasn't great, it performed much better than it's preseason projection of 9th place in the Big 10.

I agree about Altman, but Alford being on solid ground is a bit of a stretch to me.
To some hawk fans, Alford's extension was a "last straw" and they seem to be voting with empty seats over in carver-hawkeye. At the end of the day, Steve-O needs to put some butts in seats. Last year's team was one of the best he's had in a while, and there didn't seem to be much excitement over that team. Getting bounced in the 1st round didn't help.

Re: Altman to replace Alford at Iowa (rumor)
I have it from a current Creighton starter that Iowa indeed would be a job that he would take. There aren't many, but that is one of them. This was last summer when they were speculating on our job. He said he wouldn't go to ISU (for some reason) but that Iowa was a job he wanted...
Go Cyclones!

Re: Altman to replace Alford at Iowa (rumor)
I think he has a better chance to succeed at Creighton than at Iowa...easier conference (better chance to make the dance), less competition for in-state recruiting, better arena, better fan following...he is a great fit at Creighton.

Here's what the dark side thinks about it (the first post explains it better than the first post on this thread): http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?S=8&F=1...=1377&T=192501
Can I just say that reading that squawk thread brought me way down - the negative attitude and name-calling - half the stuff that was typed was really bitter. Thanks to everyone who makes CycloneFanatic the quality forum that it is.
