Iowa Girls HS Tournament

I see that Kelsey Bolte is off to a good tournament. Are there other ISU recruits or prospects in the tourney? Is there a tourney site?http://desmoinesregister.com/apps/pb.../1019/SPORTS08

Why not us?

Thanks for the link. There are some low scoring games. Do Iowa girls play with a shot-clock?

I believe sophomore Amanda Zimmerman from Ballard Huxley is an ISU recruit.

Re: Iowa Girls HS Tournament

I went to the Battle Creek Ida Grove game last night night and will be at all the games Kelsey Bolte plays in. (I skipped the 4th quarter last night as they were already up by 27).

The closest player she reminds me of as to style of play and physical build is Katie Geralds from Purdue.

Bolte is 6'1", so has size, but is a guard all the way. Most of her points came on drives to the basket. She took a couple of three's while I was there and made one, but again, again she really put the ball on floor a lot. The other thing I noticed is she has really quick hands (I bet at least four steals in the game).

I'm already looking forward to next season and this ones not even over yet!

Bolte will rewrite the record books at ISU. She was a huge get for the program. Selected to play in the Coaches Association all star game, as what one of the top 24 or 20 players in the nation.

Bolte's stats for the first game were 18 points, 7 assists, and 8 steals. In other games, (I don't remember names) the Hawkeye recruit form Iowa City West was hammered by the UNI rectuit from Des Moines Rosevelt, and the UNI recruit from North Butler was a factor in their win. If they both win today, North Butler will play Battle Creek.

9's
Battle Creek-Ida Grove edged AGWSR 48-43. BCIG had a 15 pt lead early in the second half - they had 28 turnovers, 17 of them listed as steals. There was either sloppy play or tremendous defense. Bolte fouled out with 9 boards, 9 pts and 9 turnovers. Next game - championship game - against North Butler which beat Davenport Assumption 36-32.

Ballard and Zimmerman play tonight.

I was at this game too. The BGIC players really picked it up and played great w/o Bolte in there. AGWSR was making a little run there at the end and they were able to hold them off. Shelby Schmidt of BGIC drained 4 clutch free throws at the end - nothing but net!

That sets up the final against N. Butler who squeeked one out against Davenport Assumption. (It was much closer than I thought. N. Butler looked like a college team, by comparison, with their size and fitness.) Anyway the N. Butler/BGIC game should be a good as it matches up Bolte against Indy Uhlenhopp who is a JR guard averaging over 20 per game. Uhlenhopp will be playing D1 somewhere in 2 years I'm sure, so it'll be fun to see her match up with Bolte.

Did Uhlenhopp (North Butler) verbal to UNI? I hadn't heard that, but I hope it's true. She'd be a great fit in that system.

Re: Iowa Girls HS Tournament

With help from wbbnut (thanks!) I found that the N. Butler player going to UNI is Erin Brocka. She is a senior and has signed a letter of intent. She is averaging 13 ppg.
