wow suprising news.. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncw/news/story?id=2791041
BATON ROUGE, La. -- LSU women's basketball coach Pokey Chatman, who took over as head coach in 2004 and twice took the No. 10 Lady Tigers to the Final Four, announced her resignation Wednesday.
"I have notified the university today that I will step down as head coach of the women's basketball program in order to allow me to pursue other career opportunities," Chatman said in a prepared statement.
She did not say what those opportunities are. She said she would stay with the team through its run in the upcoming NCAA Tournament and will be under contract until April 30.
"To eliminate any further distraction from our preparation for and participation in the NCAA Tournament, I will have no further comment and answer no questions on this subject," she added.
Michael Bonnette, a sports information director at the school, confirmed the resignation and said it was unexpected. "I was stunned," Bonnette said.
"We respect the decision that Pokey Chatman has made regarding her future career opportunities," athletic director Skip Bertman said in a news release. "On behalf of LSU, I thank her for her athletic accomplishments as a player and as a coach, and for the community service work she has performed for Baton Rouge and Louisiana." Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative. ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other." |

Not really. They were saying on ESPN al;l week that this would happen. LSU was really falling down the charts.

If you call that "falling down the charts" then I'd like to see how you define success.
I live in Baton Rouge and this is a shocker. Some are reporting that this has to do with "inappropriate relationships" with team members. Other reports say she doesn't feel the school is committed to Lady Tiger Basketball and she has a deal to go to Florida as their head coach.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

This took a turn I wasn't expecting. BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - LSU women's basketball coach Pokey Chatman said Thursday she won't coach in the NCAA Tournament, and The Times-Picayune of New Orleans reported on its Web site the resignation was prompted by the school's discovery of inappropriate conduct between Chatman and one or more players. http://msn.foxsports.com/wcbk/story/6548166?MSNHPHMA |

She was hooking up with a former player. Now can you imagine if this would happen with a men's program. I can see the headline.
Wojo and Coach K hooked up. Coach K resigns. The DA is pressing charges even with no evidence.

Yeah I heard that on espn this morning that she had relationships with former players.
Talk about preferential treatment for players.

Careful folks, ISU had a similar occurrence in the early 90's with the VB program.
On an aside, "Pokey" Chatman? Oh the jokes.....

This would be a much bigger story if that was the case.

It has become clear that she was forced to resign. The AD came back from the Men's SEC Tournament in Atlanta unexpectedly and she announces her resignation. She is 90-14 as head coach, has been to three straight Final Fours, and was a great player for LSU in the late 80s / early 90s so they must really have "the goods" on her whatever these "inappropriate relationships" were!

Just saying there would be all sorts of media coverage on a situation where a male coach had relations with a female player. Just look at what happened to Larry for partying with coeds.

This has to be for relationships with current players. No way she gets fired/resigns for being with a former player, that would open LSU up to a slew of lawsuits.

unless the person she was having these allegations with was a current player at the time of it, this is stupid...your personal life is your personal life and not for anyone else's to judge. My guess is that it most be the case, bcuz if they did all of this because of a relationship with a former player AFTER her time at LSU, the school would be in a lot of trouble.
