Most tired sports cliches

Heard one on my way to watch the game today - game face. Tell me what the most tired sports cliche is. For my money, it is either "banged up" or "athleticism". Time to retire both of those if you ask me. Banged up has mutated into many different combinations. For example, Ken Miller way back when on the Jock was talking NFL. He said a team was "bruised up". For crying out loud, how about just saying a team has a few people out with injuries.

Anyway, what are the most heinous sports cliches?

I've always hated the comparison of "going into battle" or "going to war."
Sorry guys, this is a game. It's not life and death.

"No one believed in us all year, but we knew we could get it done." I think I've heard this following every championship game the last 3 years.

Ask Bobby Knight what he thinks of the term "Game Face." I watched it on youtube the other day.

Kansas Basketball?

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."
