Re: SI article
Great article. It makes me glad I'm from Iowa. I love the town nicknames as well.....great inside jokes, and by far the best final line in a story I've seen from SI in a long time:
"Both of them, believe it or not, came from Osage (pop. 3,451; CITY OF MAPLES). No doubt you've flown over it."
Priceless, I can't wait to head home...

Re: SI article
Good article. Being from Missouri I still don't get the wrestling thing but it was a good read.

Re: SI article
Very good article. The amazing thing was the balanced reporting.
I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone. -
Re: SI article
Humbolt didn't have a nickname listed ... I think it might be
Humbolt: TOWN OF THE BIG BURNED OUT WAREHOUSE EYESORE
or maybe,
Humbolt: BECAUSE YOU'LL NEED TO FILL UP THE TANK BEFORE MINNESOTA

Re: SI article
This is so weird because I'm from the neighboring town of Osage(the town of the maples).

Re: SI article
Love this quote:
"When I came to Iowa State as a freshman," he {Cael Sanderson} says, "and, remember, I'd been a four-time champion in Utah, somebody asked me if I thought I could have won even one in Iowa. That's the attitude."
Until you find something worth dying for, you're not really living. -

I remember this, we were all wondering if a Utah champ could have even made it to state in Iowa. Boy, I love that swagger we have about wrestling here.
"Seven minutes to glory." -
Re: SI article
Anyone catch in the Leading Off photo section page 10-11 there is a picture of a former 149 pound cyclone wrestler, Jason Knipp. He graduated Iowa State with a degree in Construction Engineering in December and transfered to Wartburg to wrestle 165. He ended up getting 5th at Nationals. The picture of him is against the 4-time undefeated National Champ from Augsburg, Marcus Levesseur.
