Basketball Predictions Part II
I know this is really early, but just want to gauge opinion seeing now the season has just finished.
Cyclones finish 15-15 in regular season 2006-2007, and most agree that things are looking up for the future.
If everything goes down as expected (all new players make it to campus and no current players leave with exception of seniors), what is your early prediction for wins next season.
I put my very early prediction 18 regular season victories.
I know A LOT can change and it is yet to be seen if the new comers will be all they are billed to be, but it seems many think we will be pretty decent next season. How good can we be?
I am not getting my hopes up too high yet, so for now hoping for a top half of the big 12 finish next year and bubble NCAA, definate NIT bid.
It will be interesting to see how opinions change and how this compares to what people are thinking next Oct-Nov.

Re: Basketball Predictions Part II
I go 19-20, I think we improve from this year, but not all that much. it will take another year for the freshman to get really going.

Is this to early to talk about next year? The Dog is still warm.
I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone. -

I reserve judgment until I know what our roster will look like in '07/'08.

Re: Basketball Predictions Part II
I honestly just think it's too early to get a real feel of what next year will be like. Will C. McIntosh and Ross Marsden play like they did the past 3 games? Will Clark develop his offensive game? Will Taylor lose his sporaticness? And maybe most importantly: will the "hot" recruiting class pan out?
I hope we can reach the 19-20 win mark, but with all of those things still up in the air, it's hard for me to have any idea. We could do much better than this year, and believe it or not, we could do worse, depending on how much other teams in the Big XII improve. There is so much youth in the Big XII right now that you have to look at our improvement from a relative standpoint.
With all of that being said, I think right now 18 or 19 wins is a good number to shoot for, being a bubble team for the NCAA Tourney.

Re: Basketball Predictions Part II
I started the other poll, but I can't do this one as I don't see a schedule for next year. Therefore I can't use my superior intellect to correctly predict next years record just yet.

Re: Basketball Predictions Part II
I went with 16-18, because I'm expecting about 18 next year. I wouldn't be surprised to get 20 and get a tournament birth, but I'm really not counting on it. I think we're still 2 years away.

Re: Basketball Predictions Part II
I can't help but be optimistic for next year 18-20 wins seems very reachable. With the strides that these players have made this year under McD, one would think that this improvement would continue. Watching this team I feel proud to be a 'clone. While they don't have the most god-given ability they go all out, have a team mentality, and seem to look out for one another.
With Hubalek (hopefully) back, a healthy Marsden, Thompson, CJ, and the 5 star Brackins, and the post genious McD, our frontcourt game seems to be in great shape.
On the wings we have the phenom Wes Johnson, the ultimate team player in Clark, Taylor (who hopefully plays more in control with less on his shoulders), and a sharpshooting German essential for our offense. Plus Boozer.
I think our success will depend on the point. We need to take pressure off of Taylor. McIntosh played much better down the stretch, and hopefully Garrett and Brister can come in and perhaps take over.
This is a long post, but I can't help but feel excited for the future of Cyclone Basketball.

Re: Basketball Predictions Part II
The key to next year will be assits to turnover margin. This year was horrible. The defense and hustle improved tremendously. But we need to pass the ball better and that creates better looks which will improve the team shooting %. We also need to play stronger. Wesley needs more fire and he won't get stupid fouls. We need him on the court. As for wins? 18-20 is very reachable.

Re: Basketball Predictions Part II
Everyone improved at some time through the year except for Brock. Jiri Dodie, and Rahshon in Jan; Mike and Wesley in Dec and Mar; Corey, Jessan, and Cory in Feb, Ross in Mar. Hey, can we start the season over?
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: Basketball Predictions Part II
I got sucked in last summer, listening to all the hype about the new players. Only Wesley turned out as advertised. Nevertheless, if everybody comes back just the way they are today, and only one of the new guys pans out they will be good for 16-18 wins.

Hope the football hype is right on target anmd we do not have another 4-8 season.

Re: Basketball Predictions Part II
I don't recall much hype for basketball at all.

I guess I would say I am expecting better than a 4-8 season in football. We got 4 wins last year with horrible line play, a secondary that was burnt to a crisp, and a nearly non-existent running game. With a bunch of new lineman, a good running back prospect, a veteran QB and receiving corp, and a new head coach, we should be able to top that. Think 6 wins or so, but as long as we see improvement (attitude), this won't be that hard.
As far as the thread topic, I'm thinking 18-19 wins next season. There's no reason to think we can't be much improved with an intact team returning plus a bunch of helpful recruits. Not to mention a better learning curve for the incomers who can gain some knowledge from the current players instead of having to constantly learn new things throughout the season.
