I went to the Miami-FSU game a few years ago at the OB. I thought it was pretty cool that the 'Canes entrance was a bunch of different songs and quotes spliced together. It started w/ a Hurricane warning, much like our Cyclone warning and went through a few songs, a "Can you smell what The Rock is Cookin?" (The Rock was big at the time) and ended w/ "Rock me like a hurricane." It was pretty cool. It got the crowd going.

How about John Denver's, "Thank God I'm a Country Boy?"

A few ideas for you:
Play “The Way We Were” by Barbra Streisand for all of those fans still longing to have Dan McCarney back as coach.
Play “Thank God I’m a Country Boy” by John Denver to salute our school’s agricultural heritage.
Play “Break My Stride” by Matthew Wilder to reinforce the positive attitude the Cyclones need as they embark upon the game…
‘Ain't nothin' gonna break my stride
Nobody's gonna slow me down, oh no
I got to keep on moving
Ain't nothin' gonna break my stride
I'm running and I won't touch ground, oh no
I got to keep on moving’
Actually, I’m just kidding with all of these (although they used to play Thank God I’m a Country Boy for the 7th inning stretch at Baltimore Oriole games and it really got the place rocking).
However, the goal should not be to play some lame “rock anthem”…the goal should be to have the crowd so loud that when the announcer says “Here come the Cyclones” he is drowned out by crowd noise.

I can't believe this thread is discussing the merits of different AC/DC songs.
Thunderstruck? No. That is used in so many friggin' stadiums and high school fields across the country that it makes any team feel at home. "Come on in, make yourself at home." Nothing like bringing the opponents in and offering them a cup of tea.
The whole notion that it needs to be a song that everyone knows is asinine. Believe it or not, there was once a day when nobody had heard Jock Jams, or Thunderstruck, even Back In Black & Hells Bells, for that matter. Even Welcome To the Jungle was a new song at one point. Seriously, it was. Someone took a risk, and it's now become cliche'. Time to move on.
How about:
"Mountain Song" by Jane's Addiction
"Papercut" by Linkin Park
"Wth>You" by Linkin Park (from Reanimation)
"Slave to the Grind" by Skid Row
"Afterglow" by Tommy Lee
"Love Train" by Wolfmother
"Cold Hard *****" by Jet
"Woke Up This Morning" by A3 (theme from the Sopranos)
"Rise Above" by Black Flag
Seriously people, this is the Pollard era. It's time to go out on a limb and take some risks. They'll pay off.

Therein lies the problem...there likely isn't one rock/country/pop/R&B/reggae/jazz/classical/etc. song that is going to "fire up" a diverse crowd of 50,000 people. And the wierd thing about music, because musical tastes are so strongly personalized, is that a song that fires up one person might actually really, really irritate someone else.
Hence, the school fight song. That's supposed to be the one song that unifies everybody and the one song that triggers the "game is on" adrenaline rush. And as fight songs go, ISU has IMO a really good one!
I guess times have changed. Back in the day, the excitement surrounding the event was enough to fire up the fans. The band would play the fight song, the team would run out, crowd would go crazy. Personally, I dislike piped-in music at college sporting events, and many times find it a distraction from the atmosphere, the kids who are performing, and the game itself. There already is a large, talented band at the venue, so let them take care of the music.

I think that since Chizik is a southern boy there is only one option for new entrance music.....Skynrd. I offer my selection. | | |

Has anyone mentioned Audioslave's song Save our Souls. Not sure if that is the correct name of it but it would rock. Also about anything from Rage Against the Machine would work.

As proof of this, they played the song at a football game last year. At first, the crowd reacted well. However, as soon as the initial "THUNDER!" chant ended and the verses began, it left everyone wondering how to react.
The jockjams crap they play as the current intro is just music, no words, which makes it easier to react with clapping and cheering. I think the only way Thunderstruck would work is if they just played the "THUNDER!" chant over and over for the intro. You just can't do anything with it past that point.
I do love the thought of the entire crowd chanting "CYCLONES!" in place of "THUNDER!". THANK YOU for pointing out the faults of the Thunderstruck song. Yeah you can chant Cyclones real loud and well timed about once... but unless you are really into that song (maybe 20% of the people know it well) you aren't going to be able to figure out when the next "Thunder/Cyclone" chant is coming (like me).

I don’t care… I want Jack Trice stadium to be the loudest in the Big 12 and I think that creates homefield advantage.... I want to stress to everyone…I want this place to be juiced up. They bought 36,000 season tickets so there is a passion there…don’t hide it… let it out. I want there to be a passion in the stadium."

I'm all for getting rid of AC/DC...
1) It's been done. I like the theme of "thunderstruck" coinciding with cyclones, but I'm just not feeling it.
2) The sqwauks come out to "Back In Black" and I'd always like to distance us from them.
The trouble with any song you choose like Down with the Sickness or anything by Metallica is that it's going to be have been done.
I think one cool thing they could do is play "Rider's On the Storm" when the team is lining up behind the helmet with the smoke coming out sort of a "calm before the storm". Then go into something much more hyped up when the team is ready to go.
The thing I like about 2Unlimited (and there's nothing else that I do like, I'm as sick of that song as everyone else is) is that there is that intro phrase that gets everyone's attention. So we need something that has a short intro phrase like "Give me fuel give me fire give me that which I desire" or something like Down with the Sickness to grab everyone's attention.
