Gotta love yourself an internet tuff guy. You are tuff monkeybrow. I bet all your buddies are laughing because you are so witty on the internet.. So you go try and push others around on the internet. I proved myself in a brutal theatre. I don&#39;t need to prove myself to an internet tuff guy.

    I just don&#39;t like the kid who sells out his team to go play against his old team.. I spent 6 years in the Marines and would never think of trading in my guys for other guys and don&#39;t understand how anyone can do it.. How you can hate a team for 2 years and then magically want to go play against the team you have loved for 2 years?

    Who said he hated the Cyclones? He&#39;s a kid who chose to go to college at the U of I. Big deal. Hating is for us in the peanut gallery. And evidently he didn&#39;t "love" the Hawkeyes. Anyway, it isn&#39;t like he went went to fight with the Taliban and then came back. On the original point, I think with good coaching he will develop and be important to the team. He doesn&#39;t have to turn into Marcus Fizer. If he could be the next Paul Shirley, I would be happy with that.

    <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(ISUAlum2002 &#064; 07&#045;07&#045;06 2&#58;37 pm) Quoted post</div><div class='quotemain'> I agree with you do a certain degree, Drew. Predictably, you got ripped, just as I did in the other thread on this page when I expressed my views on AT.

    Seems that everyone on this board has forgotten that AT was a pine-rider for most of his time at Iowa, with good reason.

    Perhaps he can be coached by McD to be a better player, but that remains to be seen. And in the meantime, we shouldn&#39;t be giving him a free ride. If he wanted to get out of playing for the Fighting Alfords, we shouldn&#39;t be playing second fiddle to them on this.

    I want proof that he is a good player before giving up a scholarship for him. He did not provide that proof while playing on the Alfords.

There&#39;s a difference between your view and Drew&#39;s. You&#39;re concerned that AT isn&#39;t worthy of a scholarship because he hasn&#39;t proven himself on the court. This is a very legitimate concern. Drew&#39;s only argument however, is that we should never accept transfers from a hated rival like the Hawkeyes. This argument is ridiculous. By this same logic, I am irate at the hiring of McD. How can accept a traitor who would leave our instate rivals UNI to be a Cyclone. I can&#39;t accept him as a true Clone until I see him on the sidelines in Hilton. And how do we know that McD coming to ISU and inviting a Hawkeye to the team isn&#39;t some sort of underhanded ploy to sabotage ISU basketball by our in-state rivals? I&#39;ve got my eyes on you, McDermott&#33;

    I give money.

Drew: The fact that you give money would indicate that you care about the Cyclones and give them your support. Financial support is desperately needed for the Cyclones to stay competitive. But it&#39;s not just financial support that is needed. Public support for the coaches and the players will help create an environment where talented individuals want to be a part of, rather than stay away from. You can argue that criticizing a player doesn&#39;t do any damage, but ask yourself what good it does. I think if you look at it that way, you will realize that there is nothing good that can come from this, at least in a public forum. So along with your financial support, try to give the teams your public support. If things aren&#39;t going the way you like there are private means to get your message across.

    You can have an opinion on a certain player, there is nothing wrong with that. Personally, I will give AT the benefit of the doubt. People transfer to different colleges every year. When it is to a rival school, it gets more headlines, but is really no different.

    Here is my question. If AT hits a game winning shot to win the Big 12 conference tournament, what is your reaction then drew? Do you call him a traitor? Curse at him while cheering on our title? The fact is he is a Clone now, and should recieve our support. I don&#39;t care if he transferred from Iowa, KU (our main conference rival), or the Iowa School for the Blind. If Coach McD feels he is worthy of a scholarship, who are we to question his judgment? He is a Cyclone now, and should be treated the same as any other player on our bball team.

    Well said. Let&#39;s stop questioning GMAC. Just sit back & see what product he can put on the court.

    I trust his judgment & believe he&#39;ll do a great job. If he can do what he did at UNI, just think what he can do at ISU with better facilities, bigger budget, Big 12 conference, etc. It&#39;ll be exciting&#33;

    Wow, this thread is terrible.

    But I would like to say that Thompson was recruited heavily by Iowa State. He certainly could have come here originally if he wanted, so I don&#39;t know where you guys got the whole "He wasn&#39;t offered" thing. He might not have been offered, but Wayne definintly wanted him here.

    I agree. If G-Mac had any doubts that Alex didn&#39;t fit into how he was going to build his program he would have passed on giving him a scholarship.

    I also don&#39;t see where having 5 scholarships is better than having 4 at this point. I have no inside information, but my guess is G-Mac and staff have approached the outstanding offers on a first come/first serve basis:
    • We have a post in Brackens
    • We will take 1 PG (Garrett, Delaney, etc)
    • We will take 1 WG (Stinnett, etc)
    • We will take Leuer or McFarland
    Leuer seems to be playing well on the summer camp circuit so the staff might hold a spot open for him til a certain date.

    "He might not have been offered........" You said it there, he wasn&#39;t offered so why would he come to be a Cyclone?? Apparently Wayne didn&#39;t want him too bad then.

    Deace had said several times on his show that he had spoken to Wayne and Morgan had said that he really wished he could have gotten Thompson when he was coming out of high school. I didn&#39;t follow recruiting as much then, so I couldn&#39;t say whether or not he was offered but I know that Wayne expressed regret at losing Thompson to Iowa. Wayne wanted him bad.

    The Marines? What the hell does you being in the Marines have to do with Iowa and Iowa State basketball? And who said he hated ISU for two years? Just because he played for the sqawks doesn&#39;t mean he hated the clones. I think you are forgeting that some things are more important than the Iowa/Iowa State rivalry&#33;

    this is my view on the situation. yes i know alex went to iowa. yes i know he rode the bench. he also hit a clutch shot to win the Big 10 title. how many times did eric hanson screw up and he was left in there while alex thompson was pulled immediately? he was not allowed to play aggressive by the coaching staff. when you play to not make mistakes, you make mistakes. i have contacts close to the iowa program. it was said that him and brunner would go at it in practice and he would match brunner, but he could not put it into the game becuz alford made him nervous. its seems to me, iowa state is where he wants to be and thats all we can hope for. from the reports from the summer league, he is our best post player, and he wont be able to play next year, so who know what he can do with putting on weight and having a definate role?&#33;

    i was disappointed in haluska becuz of how he left. he said he was staying, then bolted. but both have done WHATS BEST FOR THEM so i can respect that. i did not understand what this meant until i went through the recruiting process. you dont know how tough of a decision it is until you go through it. i do understand loyalty to a school, but i also know if your heart is not there, then it will be no good for the program or you.

    also, i wish ppl would stop flaming each other. name calling is pointless. cyclone drew i understand your view, but i do not think it is fair to compare alex thompson to a marine. military service and playing college basketball are way different. but understand your loyalty point.

    Think of our post players for the 2007 season

    1. Brackens-4 maybe 5 star

    2. Thompson-believe he was a 4 star

    3. Marsden-3 star i believe

    4.Hubalek-moving on

    5. Maybe Leuer-4 star

    6. Cory Johnson-3 star

    I know that highly rated players dont necessarily work out, but with that frontcourt and the backcourt of some other possible highly rated recruits the future looks good.
