I realize it is hard to get a conversation going about women's Bball in a world dominated by football and slam dunks, but what has happened in the last 4-5 weeks by this team is something to talk about. First though, I would like the idiot that suggested back in Jan. that Pollard would soon be replacing Bill to step up and eat a large helping of CROW.

Absolutely, some people can type faster than they can think.

The Register ran in article about that time in which Bill himself suggested that it was time for him to move on. His team was struggling and he said something along the lines of 12 years is a long time, maybe they need a change.

The women's team is playing the best basketball since we won the Big 12 title back in 2001.... (I think that was the year)..... They are playing as a team, under control, and hitting a high percentage of 3 pointers, mainly due to good looks. They could get as high as a 4 seed in the tourney, and definitely are playing at a level to do some damage. Congrats to the team and to Bill Fennelly!

I think that discussion was more a question of figuring out JP. Just how serious is he about top half finishes and conference championships? Serious enough to tap an icon? Fortunately, I think Fennelly has taken that discussion off the table, for now.
Coaching is a "what have you done for me lately" job. Cheryl Burnette (sp?)"retired" from Michigan after a less than stellar four years. She had been to the final four twice. From an AD perspective if a team is down for a couple of years and things don't look like they're going to get better - it might be retirement time. Did recent record influence Marsha Sharpe's departure from Tech? Notwithstanding that Jody Condradt celebrated her 900th win this week, how long will Texas accept lower tier finishes?

i just saw a stat that the women are 19-1 when they lead at the half. That amazing when you think about all the times in the last couple of years the men had leads going into half time and lost

Any way we can get Medders back for another year under some obscure NCAA loophole? She is one heck of a ball player and will be missed sorely next season.

Fennelly is a good game day coach, a living legend. I think he made a better decision compared to GMac when Fennelly put Medders back in the game with 4 fouls. GMac should have put either Wesley or Jiri in around 6 min mark. Fennelly's screens were perfect. Last night's game was one of the perfectly coached, well defended and very energetic women's basketball game I have watched in a long time. The day we let Fennelly go will be the day I will quit watching ISU womens basketball.
There's just no reason Fennelly should feel the pressure. He is a legend, a true leader and the only coach in Big 12 to win more post season games - not to mention he will win 3 championships in 8 years. He is our identity towards a rich tradition.

CROW is awfully tough for that idiot to eat, so I would suggest something a little more tender like good old Iowa Pork!
FYI I happen to like Pork Tenderloins! But that idiot can take his choice of any pork product!
Yeah Geez you're right... How anyone in their right mind could think about replacing Fennelly, is beyond my limited comprehension! Does anyone remember Pam Wettig and Debbie whatever her last name was... cause I can't even remember it. These esteemed ladies did so bad inside Hilton that nobody even knew that ISU had a womens basketball team.
My advice to JP...Hang onto Fennelly for as long as you can and if that means getting on your knees JP and kissing Fennelly's boots...DO IT!!

The discussions about Fennelly leaving were taken out of context a bit. From what I understand, he was discussing his difficulty in getting his point across to this team (at the time) and that maybe someone else could do a better job. I believe a lot of people read too much into that.
Just my take.

I said in another thread, I'd give Bill a lifetime contract at ISU. He's the face of ISU women's b-ball and he'd have to do a whole lot of losing for most of our fans to be calling for a coaching change. When he took the job maybe 50 people came to the games and now their are games where 10,000+ is normal.
To lose him would be a big blow to the program I think.

I don't think we're in any danger of losing him. I remember reading a quote from him saying he'd like to coach at Iowa State until he retires.
