How many of you think coaches at Iowa State feel the pressure to win championships now more than ever before? I do. Two possible big 12 championships in a few days time says it all. Iowa State was reborn the day Mr. Pollard was hired. My heart goes out to all the athletes who compete day in and day out, and only Pollard's strong directions matter at the end of day when coaches are being graded to produce quality athletes at Iowa State.
I think we will win a big 12 championship in all major sports in JP era, the first ever AD to do it at Iowa State (I need to check the stats on that, but I am pretty sure he can be the first and only one so far at ISU)

Well, considering we've never out and out won a Big 12 football title, I think you're safe in saying that.

Was it like in 1912 that we won the title for football?

Technically, we'd be the Big Twelve Tournament Champions, wouldn't we? I thought the Big 12 champion was determined by the regular season.

Sometimes people just breed success. They can walk into a room and immediately make those around him/her better.
So far, we're headed in that direction.

BryceC, if you ask me winning big 12 tournament title is a lot more challenging than winning the regular season title especially being an underdog. ISU was an underdog by one seed to Nebraska when they beat them. They beat the #1 seed A&M yesterday - after playing 3 games in 3 days.
Don't you think we play the regular season to get a higher seed going into the conf tournament (other than NCAA hopes)? If north or south champion does not mean a whole lot compared to who actually wins the big 12 championship game for football, I would think we would put a little more emphasis on the tourneys for bb sports.
But anyway, I am trying to give our girls a lot of credit for playing a solid 40 minute basketball.
Oh and I can't remember the last time any Big 12 womens team won Big 12 championsship being a lower seed, playing all 4 days and beating #1 seed in qtr final. (stat check?)

If we start saying that we're Big XII champs because we won the tourney would make us sound like a certain coach East of here who's awfully proud of that "accomplishment."

Here's a reply from Mr. Champion himself: (I got the reply in less than an hour)
------------------------------------------------------------------ I like how you think! Lets beat the Sooners on Saturday night.

515-294-0104 (fax) jbp@iastate.edu Jamie, I wanted to thank you personally for being there personally during the women’s semifinal game. I assure you having Medders’ boss cheering for her helped her in sealing this victory. I wish my boss would make the trip to see me shine J I wanted to congratulate you in possibly winning two championships in big 12 sports in a few days span. I can’t remember the last time my head was up cheering for the cyclones in championship games. Hang in there Mr. Pollard. The day is very near when we will win a Big 12 championship in football and you will be the first athletic director in any school of Iowa to win championships in all major sporting events in your era. Good luck to you and your staff. Thanks. Sincerely,

If you are at EIU, and you win the conference tourney, you say that you are the conference champs.

I guess I am a pessimest, but lets try to beat a ranked team or finish the conf with a winnnig record before we start talking about big 12 championships.

Not really sure how Pollard is Medders' boss?

In 2008 or 2009 I could definitely see a Big 12 North title, IDK how we would far playing for the ENTIRE big 12 championship against a South opponent, but it would only be one game so anything could happen...success has followed Chizik EVERYWHERE he's been so I could def. see him keeping it up here at ISU,
