Gary Barta to be on Jon Miller's show today
Around 3:30pm The show airs on 1460 KXNO in Central Iowa, and it can be heard online at www.kxno.com, by clicking on the 'Listen Live' button that will appear in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
Should be interesting.

Just thinking about the whine fest that will go on then is enough to make me throw up in my mouth. Fun radio indeed...NOT.

Ya he was interviewed and was definitely PC about everything. He says all the coach's (Bluder(sp), Alfraud, and Ferentz) know they need to improve and pretty much BS'd his way through the questions. Of course they didn't allow any callers to talk to him as I am sure they thought it could have gotten brutal.
Of course Miller had to ask AGAIN about the $90 football tickets, if they were contemplating opening up Kinnick and if they were planning a rebuttal when the game was back in the sewer city again. Barta did give Pollard credit but again was pretty void in answerring the questions about opening Kinnick and 2008 ticket pricing.

If any time was good to fire Alford it's now. I'm not saying that I hope he gets fired, as long as he stays at EIU they will continue to be mediocre.
He loses his best player and doesn't have much coming in for recruits to go with at team that outside of Tyler Smith doesn't have much talent for next season. Might as well get rid of the coach now while you don't risk losing any big recruits and let someone else come in and clean up the mess. If they stink it up next season and he finally gets canned you don't have much to work with if Smith goes pro so starting now at least gives a new guy a chance to bring in some recruits. Any top notch recruits have to be looking at this situation next season that Alford may not be around much longer.
The Iowa fans have never really gotten behind Alford and if he's had 8 years to turn it around and still doesn't have the support its just not going to happen...

She's had a few good teams but lately that program has gone in the tank too. When she left Drake she was a pretty hot commodity but now I can't see her getting more than another mid-major conference job once she's done at Iowa.
I'll tell you 1 good coach we should all be proud to have ISU roots and that's Brenda Frese of Maryland. Won a national title last season there and used to coach under Fennelly at ISU.

I don't know if she would want to come back, but she is my choice to replace Bill when he decides to step down. Her parents still live in Cedar Rapids, and she was thrilled to come back this year to play UNI, so you never know.

this has to hurt recruiting. I mean, recruits will see the UofI in a state uncertainty for the next two years.
has Barta set SA up for failure?

It is understandable to me that he would come in and not rock the boat his first year. Again, he has a pretty solid donor base. Whereas Jamie had to get people talking right away, and couldn't afford to have coaches who aren't performing if he was going to get his facility plan done.

He also mentioned that He thought the Knicks made a great choice by Giving Isaiah Thomas an Extension. Just kiddin.

Issiah gets an extension for having the highest payroll in the NBA but they still have a losing record. Even Steinbrenner with all the money he spends wouldn't accept that.
I would not let Issiah touch my franchise with a 10 foot pole. You know they saying how everything so-and-so touches turns to gold, well everything Issiah touches turns to crap.

I'm not sure if we could afford Brenda, but yes she is a great coach.

Re: Gary Barta to be on Jon Miller's show today
First, Iowa fans need to realize they don't have the potential in MBB that Iowa State does. They have no history and they don't play in nearly as deep of conference (typically). Their fans are hit or miss and most only care about football, as does most of the faculty.
Secondly, Barta is doing the PC thing by giving Alford one more year when he knows that next year will almost certainly be worse than this year without Haluska at the helm. Smith is good but he can't be the only option. The Big Ten is week after the top two or three and Iowa will probably end up around 6th or 7th next season, in my opinion.
A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.
