Alford to Stay Next Year
I know it for a fact, my friends dad is Alford's golf buddy or something and he asked him if he's coming back and he said it is a guaranteed yes.
I love it. Iowa is just going to keep failing miserably until Saint Stevie leaves.
I also heard that if Alford stays next year, Tyler Smith will declare for the draft after his sophomore season.
This is great.

I would also bet he is coming back , but its not like a coach always knows when he is about to be fired.

Re: Alford to Stay Next Year
Didn't Barta say that Alford has one more year? I thought I read that somewhere.
Howie, do you go to high school in CR/Marion? (I'm assuming you're in HS) If you go to Linn-Mar, I officially do not like you. "Seven minutes to glory." -

Re: Alford to Stay Next Year
Everybody needs to quit paying attention to the sports media attempting to predict the coaching shuffle. Alford is not popular at Iowa, but he has not done anything that would make him an attractive candidate at any "major" program, which is what he called Iowa. He had his agent contact Missouri so he could save face if they didn't want him, which was the case. Indiana was not interested, but a few of Stevie's old buddies in Indiana wanted him, thus the rumors. Rumors about Larry or Alford going to New Mexico are just that. No proof that either the candidate or the school have been in contact. When you have a list of candidates that have been interviewed, come back and discuss it.

Re: Alford to Stay Next Year
Funny, they're going to be in the same situation next year (I can't imagine that their 07-08 team will be any better than NIT). VandeBarta would be smart to cut ties now and start over, but he just won't make the call. Might as well leave their MBB program in limbo for a year!!!

Maybe Barta will ask Pollard to fire Alford for him.

I thought Barta stated that pretty much point-of-fact on Miller's show Monday. No coaching changes this year.
Yippie!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Alford to Stay Next Year
I guess Iowa State has higher standards for their basketball team than Iowa does otherwise Barta would fire Alford. Thats just makes something else ISU is better at than Iowa

I hate it out here in Hawkeye country, every day is a struggle.

Re: Alford to Stay Next Year
Alford can say that he's staying to look like he is not on his way out the door but I bet you if any halfway decent job comes his way he'd be stupid not to take it. With the team he has coming back and Barta on the record that a repeat of this year would be unacceptable the writing is on the wall that he's probably a sitting duck. If some other school comes along and offers a 3 or 4 year deal I think he'd be smart to take it and have a little more job security than to have the pressure to win or lose your job next season.
Then again I'm like others here, I would not mind Iowa extending his contract some more. :)

Re: Alford to Stay Next Year
Exactly, because the more he stays, the more recruits they lose, even in-state recruits. Most notably is last years Jason Bohannon, he didn't go to Iowa all because of Alford, his younger brother Zach also isn't going to go to Iowa if Alford is still there.
That is also the reason all-state shooting guard Jordan Printy won't be a Hawkeye next year.
Printy said he would have came here but we never gave him an offer.
