Re: Qualifiers for the National Championship
Realistically, how good of a shot do we have at the rodents to the north? Forgive my ignorance, but how does the scoring work? I know they've beaten us twice in dual meets, but this is different. From what little I know, ISU tends to do fairly well at getting bonus points at these things...

I haven't studied the scoring system yet, but MN is the team to beat.

Re: Qualifiers for the National Championship
It is like HS track, each players points are added up into a big bucket, which is your team score. The better ISU does with indiv performances, the more points they get. Having 10 wrestlers there is a good sign, they just need to advance all of them for a while and have no early outs.

Bucket?
I haven't read anything about buckets?
Do they actually drop their points is a bucket?

Re: Qualifiers for the National Championship
I know that championships are often won in the wrestle backs and that's our best hope, but the gophers do have two guys that are basically locks for titles, the defending Schlatter and Conrad at hwt. They're really loaded.

Re: Qualifiers for the National Championship
Conrad is a beast. An absolute beast. 41-0 last year and is unbeaten so far this year. I remember watching him win the B10's as a sophmore and he was so dominant.
I would really be happy with a second place finish. That would be a great step in right direction because it is going to take a lot to beat UM.

Re: Qualifiers for the National Championship
ISU will have to show improvement from the Big XII meet to push Minnesota. ISU could have anywhere from 3 - 9 All Americans. If they can hit the 9, they have good shot at top 2. It is possible!
Go clones!

3 pts = Decision (wrestler wins by less than 5 points - I think)
4 pts = Major Decision (wins by 5 points or more - I think)
5 pts = Technical Fall (wins by 15 points or more)
7 pts = Fall (wrestler pins his opponent)
You sum the totals for each team earned by its wrestlers and that's how you determine team score.
It's been 10 years since I wrestled in HS, so I may be wrong on points, and college may score differently. This should just give you an idea how teams earn points.

In a tournament, like the NCAA's, Midlands, and Big 12 Tourney, you get points for winning (1 point in the winner's bracket, and 1/2 a point for winning in wrestle-backs or the loser bracket.) Also, a major decision I think is 1 bonus point, Tech Fall is 1.5 points, and a Fall is 2 bonus points. I'm not sure about how many points we get for placing, but that also depends on how deep they place (which I"m also unsure of).
