Greg Doyel on coaching searches and Wayne Morgan
I was reading Greg Doyel at CBS (it was a weak moment for me) and he was listing the leading candidate for the Denver and Wyoming jobs. In talking about the baggage for the Fresno State assistant rumoured to be going to Wyoming he wrote:
Schroyer got Fresno State involved in the D1 Scheduling mess that cost Iowa State coach Wayne Morgan his job and had Fresno looking into the way its program scheduled games and recruited junior college players.
So, what do you think? Obviously being mentioned in this "scandal" that Doyel broke wasn't great but did it really cost Morgan his job? Personally I think that was barely a blip on the radar for Pollard and Doyel's trying to toot his own horn here but maybe I'm in the minority. What do you think?

The story that the media knows is the recruiting/scheduling scandal, but everyone close to Iowa State knows that Wayne Morgan couldn't control his team.

Re: Greg Doyel on coaching searches and Wayne Morgan
The scheduling issue is the straw that broke the camels back and I think the primary reason Jamie let Wayne go. Wayne's control of the team was a secondary issue and probably a harder one for Jamie to defend if Wayne had wanted to contest things and go to court.

The recruiting scandal just sealed the deal for Pollard to get rid of Morgan. I think it was likely going to happen anyway, but when that came out, it was a nail in the coffin.

Re: Greg Doyel on coaching searches and Wayne Morgan
In my opinion Greg Doyel deserves to have his head put through a plate glass window. The guy is an arrogant jack-***** and is actually proud of all the hate mail he gets from people.
I think Wayne has a legitimate reason to sue for slander (or libel, or whatever the term is) for the hyped-up, overblown hatchet job this Doyel jack-***** did on him.

I don't think that Pollard knew right away what was going to come down the pike with this deal. He knew Morgan needed to go anyway, so this unknown had to have sped up the decision.

Yes, control was an issue. But at least his team didn't quit on him, three times. -

Morgan's days were numbered, Doyle's hack article did Wayno in quicker than Pollard could hope for...........maybe we are all looking at this the wrong way? Doyle did ISU and it's fans a favor. Morgan was a lame choice for LE's replacement anyway. What scandal??? Many coaches get into some kind of trouble that media creates a frenzy over and get jobs at D-1 level fairly quick. Morgan is still in Ames and hasn't had one nibble for D-1 job and never will........face facts Wayneo is collecting is buyout and sitting on his arsse in Ames...........and soon to be selling cars or Medicare supplements to old farts.

Re: Greg Doyel on coaching searches and Wayne Morgan
WM was more of a backup assistant and was promoted beyond his expectations. He was very nice to his players it appeared. That is a positive after watching more Bobby Knight.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: Greg Doyel on coaching searches and Wayne Morgan
That is like a crowning achievement for Doyle. In his eyes he got a coach fired. He's going to beat his chest about it and remind everyone any chance he gets to.

Re: Greg Doyel on coaching searches and Wayne Morgan
Doyel needs to stick to what he knows and write a very indepth article called "How to be a Giant Tool". -
Re: Greg Doyel on coaching searches and Wayne Morgan
What got Wayne Morgan fired....was the change in athletic directors!

Yeah well, ya know, that's just, like uh, your opinion, man.
