I'd really wait on that one. I think he still needs one more championship bracket win to seal a place-finish. Askren can still run the table and finish 3rd.

I hear you, but I still feel better that Backes doesn't have to face Askren in his next match.

I can't believe Backes beat that guy . . . at the Big XII he lost to him even though the OU guy was laid out with the flu. That's awesome. And Askren losing is even better . . . the few times I've watched that guy wrestle I had a hard time believing he was so great.

Unless Cael pulls some serious magic, we are probably two years away from taking over the #1 spot . . . they are going to be very tough next year and we lose some good seniors.

True, but that's only going to be true for so long, unles Brackes runs the table to the title match. Or misses him somehow in the loser bracket.

Also true. I just looked at the bracket. Assuming Askren runs the table, if Backes loses tomorrow morning, he wouldn't see Askren until match 576, the loser of which would wrestle for 7th. If Backes wins, he wouldn't see Askren until the 3rd place match. Either way, by that time Backes would have guaranteed himself a place, which is what I think is really important (especially for a Senior). However, I'd still rather have him run the table to the title match.
