I'm in the same boat. I want a 46" sony bravia XBR, but have no place in the home to put it. To solve that problem, we're finishing the basement (complete with ISU Themed billiard room) so I have a place for that beautiful machine.
My favorite part, the home theater will have a secret bookcase door to a storage room! (I think it's a guy thing because I haven't found a woman yet that thinks that's a big deal... even my wife.) THAT IS TOTALLY AWESOME.
I'm already thinking of ways to incorporate a secret door into my half/finished basement. I think it almost has to be able to open via a secret button or a keyless entry remote ... or maybe a blond that asks for the password | "clones_jer--you're right" - mvhm 9/9/8 |

Look at the videos here: www.hiddenpassageway.com Ours will be like the bookcase video, with a bookcase on each side of the tv (one being fixed and the other being the secret door). I wish I could do something like the chair that has a slide under the cushion, or a raising staircase...

On the other hand, given what passes for "art" these days, a 60" plasma with a beer can stuck through the front glass might actually increase its value, especially if one can prove that the beer can launcher did it. I can just picture the ebay listing now...

They're also available at www.hiddendoors.com You really shouldn't have told your wife about it. Then, when she told you to do the chores, you could just disappear for a while as she looks for you. |

As for our furniture, we had to get that TV set up first - was almost 3 months in the waiting! We'll probably transplant some furniture from the upstairs living room and add a piece or two. Priorities, priorities...

I mean, you will probably only keep the tv what 4-6 years before the tech is outdated and you need to get a new one? If you add the cost of 3 bulds in to a micoprojector, it is still $1000 cheaper than plasma or lcd for a 25% larger screen. Most definatley! The bulb for the projector i'm getting is going to cost about $325 or so. Not too bad. It's better than buying a $3000 50 inch HDTV. Instead I'm getting a 106 inch screen, 1000 watt home theatre system, and HD capable projector all for under $2000. It's going to be like i'm at the movies every night. If anybody sees a set up similar they fall in love with it imediately and want to have it. That's what happened to me and i should have it in a week or two.

My sub is 2400 watts, of course the wife makes me keep it on like level 1. grrr...
If you go with a projector, make sure the room is nice and dark, unless you are getting like a 300 watt bulb in there.

You can make a projector bulb last a long time as long as you are frugal about how much stuff you watch using it. I would suggest not just watching everyday TV on it and only firing it up for movies, big sporting events and maybe your favorite weekly show.

Sit back relax, watch your tv, and worry about a new bulb in a few years. It is not worth stressing over to for $200-$300.
