Anyone else find it odd that Dr. Tom will not attend the press conference?

I can imagine that Dr. Tom would rather have the focus be placed on his son who will be announced as the new head coach. If Tom was there, the majority of the press conference would be focused on him and why he was stepping down, this way his son gets his own moment in the spotlight without any distractions.
Regardless, you've had a great career Dr. Tom.

Re: Dr.Tom hangin it up!
I found it extremely difficult to hate hawkeye basketball when Dr. Tom was in charge, so I was happy when they let him go and placed Stevie Wonder in the job; the natural order of things was restored!
When I first moved to IC, a friend asked me to attend a basketball game (the one & only in 9 years other than those involving ISU), and I accepted because his seats were behind the EIU bench. They were playing UNI and relatively early in the game Jess Settles committed a dumb foul on a free throw. Dr. Tom immediately called TO and I thought I was going to see him do some serious coaching, teaching or setting up their press, etc. Thirty seconds later I'm laughing my @ss off because he spent the entire TO berating his sixth-year senior in a comic tirade. Even the EIU bench players were smiling...
I had hoped that he'd have a little more success at Drake to shove it in EIU's face, but it wasn't to be. Have a great retirement, Tom Davis!

Maybe Tom can get the Iowa job when Steverino moves to New Mexico.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: Dr.Tom hangin it up!
I liked Dr.Tom. I hope that he enjoys the rest of his life. I also wish Drake had been able to be more successful, but a winning record was a great accomplishment.

Man, what a bummer. Dr. Tom was a great man and a good coach. Too bad he wasn't able to get a little more done at Drake. Hopefully his son can build on the momentum his father started.

Re: Dr.Tom hangin it up!
Dr. Tom's teams played hard, he substituted so much that sometimes I wonder if he lost track of who was out on the floor...
Rumor has it that Rudy Washington is coming back to EIU...

Re: Dr.Tom hangin it up!
the guy is going out on a pretty high note,
1 beat us
2 beat iowa
3 beat uni..2 times..which we all know is that "state title"
4 winning record
Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative. ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other." -
Re: Dr.Tom hangin it up!
I am guessing that Baylor is regretting hiring Dave Bliss instead of Dr Tom in 98.
I was never a real fan (he did coach at Iowa after all), but, I am glad that this time he got to go out on his own accord. Drake is better for having Tom Davis as their coach. Now with Keno taking over, maybe it will be like Washington State, and Tony Bennett, Drake will have a monster year next year.

Good Lord, how hard is it to proof read.
"Drake will make the retirement official at a 3 p.m. news conference at the Morrison Room in the Knapp Center. Davis will no be present."

I know he was a long-time Hawkeye, but in my eyes he was a great coach and a first class guy. I think this time he's done for good.
Edit: Hit the wrong buttom, thanks moderators!
