Barta has granted permission.

Re: New Mexico officially asks for permission to talk to Alford
Anyone else find a little irony in this breaking news 20 minutes before The Drake press conference announcing Dr. Tom's retirement?
Either the Iowa AD doesn't have a short list of candidates or he doesn't have a spine. Granting your coach permission to interview just killed any chance of Hawk recruiting.
So, U of I has no University President, a basketball coach that is really dividing hawkeye nation, and an atheletic director that will be a lame duck when the university can find a President. Man oh man.

Re: New Mexico officially asks for permission to talk to Alford
Alford wonders why the Iowa fans don't accept him. - 1 NCAA tournament win in 8 years...when Iowa was used to Dr. Tom and NEVER losing.
- Consistant speculation about him taking another job.
- Not very personal
Just to name a few...

Re: New Mexico officially asks for permission to talk to Alford
This is all too funny. From Iowa to New Mexico...I don't even think that's a lateral move if it happens. The fanbase will have lower expectations, and that should suit Alfraud quite nicely -
Re: New Mexico officially asks for permission to talk to Alford
Man this news sucks... Steve Alford for EIU coach for life!
Can you imagine how bad his recruiting at EIU will be if, for some reason, he doesn't get the NM job?
I also heard that Manchester is asking permission to hire him again, no wait, that was La'James International College.

Re: New Mexico officially asks for permission to talk to Alford
General questions for people..
So who is on everybody's list as possible candidates at Iowa? Can they pull in anybody decent?
I wouldn't be so sure about their ability to get a "quality" coach.
A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player. -

I wouldn't be so sure about their ability to get a "quality" coach. People said the same thing about us. I think they'd be insane not to contact Lowery and Altman, and Kruger was a possibility that I did not consider.

Re: New Mexico officially asks for permission to talk to Alford
I'm sure some successful mid-major coaches would go for an opportunity to coach in the Big 10.

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative. ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."
