I for one am. He was a pile, and I for one was glad to have him keep pacing the court at Carver. He was a guarantee that EIU would never reach real basketball prominence. He backed Pierre Pierce and gave us someone to have fun with all year long. What if they hire a good coach now? Oh, Stevie Alfraud, I will miss all of the entertainment you provided us, and here's to continued mediocrity, and continuing to pull off the used car sales man look better than anyone. This is one State fan who is dreading to see you go....

I know I'm going to miss him, just like I was a bit sad when Missouri canned Quinn. It's always good to have horrible coaches in your region, if you ask me. If Alford does leave, the only thing that could brighten my day would be to hear the words, "Introducing your new Hawkeye basketball coach, Wayne Morgan!"

I think I will miss him a little as well.Even though he gave the state a bad name, he sure helped out the Hawks.I thinks its hilarious when you hear all the Squawks ***** about there coach and how they can't believe that he got a contract extension.Pretty bad when your season ticket holders quit buying the tickets because of one guy.

I'm sad he's leaving; as a Cyclone fan living in IC, I've always enjoyed the "down time" that EIU men's and women's basketball seasons provided me. I could walk into my neighborhood convenience store and not have to worry about any of the resident loafers engaging me on a hoops topic, because they just didn't care.
Several years ago, I took a group of 4th Grade Cub Scouts to a scheduled tour of Carver Hawkeye. Our student tour guide had a list of rules to cover before we began, and #1 was, "If we run into him, do NOT speak to Coach Alford or any of his players unless he speaks to you first." Unfortunately we didn't see him, as I'd have broken the rule out of principle.
I've got three other first-hand experiences and a handful of second-hand stories that illustrate his arrogance, but we don't need to cover them here; it's well known as it is...

That is classy. A group of kids, that are not allowed to say, "Hi" let alone speak to a coach of a Major College Univeristy. Good rule to have sqwaks.

Stevie Alfraud is a typical Pukeye fan all the way. Arrogant, classless and thinks he's God's gift to Iowa as well as the Planet Earth. Constantly thinking their team deserves way more then their playing merits, just because of all their loveliness's.
Heard plenty of stories about how arrogant he is when going all over town and expecting things given to him because he is Steve Alfraud. I hear his wife makes him look like a nun too.
He will be missed.

Question for the day: Can I still make season tickets work for FB and MBB if I move to Canada? |

After the first game or two the new coach loses, hawk fans will hate him just as much as Steve and things will be normal again.

I'm pretty sure that hair stylists of the greater Iowa City metro area are going to miss him....
you gotta wonder if EIU had gone deeper in the tourney last year with that veteran group if this would be happening now....

I will miss Steve, but I am confident that whomever they find to replace him--be it Gillespie, Coach K, Wooden, Boeheim--will be just as competent at their new job as Stevie boy was.
God speed, Steve. We will miss you.

He will be missed. This is hilarious! Alford and EIU were the match made in heaven. His arrogance was a mirror image of theirs. In answer to the question - yes, I am sad to see him go. It was always fun to listen to their fans whining about the guy who used to be their saviour.

I don't think there's much doubt that he is extreme in his "sense of entitlement"! I was sitting ten feet from him at Old Chicago Pizza one night as he verbally berated the waitress about her service in a "packed" restaurant. His father (Sam) had his head in his hands and appeared embarassed by Steve's tirade.
I've also watched him intimidate college kid referees at the North Dodge Athletic Club youth basketball league games; he sits with his entourage at the end of the court away from all the parents on the side. Surprising how calls go his kid's way when he starts barking...
He was scheduled to do a "promote reading" appearance at my kids elementary school several years ago, but when the day arrived his sent his father instead.
Lastly, I already told the story about the small-group Cub Scout tour of Carver-Hawkeye where the kids were instructed "not to speak to Coach Alford if we see him unless he speaks to you first". Those instructions came from somewhere...
I know a downtown clothier who was approached and declined Steve's offer of radio spots in exchange for free suits. I also know a drywall contractor who did work on his new home and had extreme difficulty getting payment for "change orders" submitted by Steve & Tonya.
If you spoke with most anybody in Iowa City, they'd have arrogant Stevie stories to share...

I'm so glad Tom Davis beat Iowa/Alford in his final year..... a class guy whom Bowlsby treated like a turd.

This just in!
The National Cyclone Club has announced a counter offer to the one presented by University of New Mexico.
The NCC has offered Steve Alford 1.2 million dollars per year for 20 years to remain the head men's basketball coach at the University of Iowa.
