Gillespie to Iowa? Bwwwuahahahahahaha!

But, a good number of Hawk fans think it could happen...

Insane thread #1

Insane thread #2

This ranks right up there with the lunacy that occurred here when a small minority entertained the idea of ISU landing Mike Ditka.

Iowa can get a good coach. But there is no way in hell they're getting Gillespie.

Wow...I wonder what led them to believe he would leave his Sweet 16 (so far) team for a team that didn't even make the NIT?

Gotta love how "marijuanaman" started that first insane thread. Nothing like starting the day with a good chuckle. Nice finds 22.

They're delusional, sometimes under-cooked turkey can cause some intestinal problems.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

The part about Iowa having better facilities and tradition in basketball amused me (and a friend I'm discussing it with).

What does Iowa think they are in basketball? A&M doesn't have great tradition, yet Gillespie is establishing one right now. Better facilities in Iowa City? Please.

I really think this is going to be a long search. There don't seem to be many "great" candidates out there. I believe Iowa will end up with a BCS assistant or mid-major head coach. They won't be happy in the end I bet...we'll see how Barta does.

It is funny but I've seen some equally ridiculous thoughts come up on Fanatic in the past. (i.e. ISU 11-1 in 2006 under McCarney)

After traveling to College Station from Houston, and seeing the sea of white in the stands, and tell me they don't have tradition is just plain nuts. I know the winning season is helping a lot, but still A&M is full of tradition no matter what aspect of the college you look at.

Re: Gillespie to Iowa? Bwwwuahahahahahaha!

The advantage they have right now in looking for a coach is it's still early on and a lot of schools aren't real deep in their searches yet. I'm sure Barta has a somewhat short list of candidates but he hasn't been there long and he didn't "plan" on looking until next year so it's hard to say just how refined his list really could be.

If they try to run the search like they have for their president, they should have a new coach by the '10-'11 season if all goes well:)

Gillespie is NOT going to Iowa City, nor is Tubby, Wooden, Coach K or anybody else that well known. They're going to get a mid-major head coach or a BCS assistant just because there is no reason to leave a BCS head coaching job for Iowa City unless you're experiencing problems at your current school. That's just the way it is, regardless of what they're smoking over there in Iowa City.

Face it, Iowa can get a "name" coach because their in the Big Ten with decent attendance records BUT that doesn't mean the "name" coach is going to be a household name. More than likely Iowa is going to get a mid-major up-and-comer or they're going to be paying twice as much as they did for Alford. Iowa City is a football school and that doesn't help their cause.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

There was a similarly ridiculous post here on CF the other day indicating that Gillespie was going to be the next coach at Michigan. Same things that I posted there apply here. EIU has nothing to offer him that he can't get in College Station. A&M has (or will shortly have) a newer basketball facility, a large recruiting base in reasonably close proximity, tons of money, and nice winters.

Amen to that. Has anyone watched an A&M basketball game on TV the last couple years? That atmosphere is great!

I still don't buy what a lot of Hawks say though when they say Iowa has as much to offer as Michigan. That's just crazy talk.

Michigan has tradition and a great atmosphere. They have a name that alone can bring in a couple recruits. All they need is a decent coach and they'd be right back to the top two or three of the Big Ten easily. With the perfect coach, they have a lot to offer.

Michigan could offer Gillespie a ton of money but I don't think he's all about money like some are. He likes A&M for many reasons and I think he stays there for quite some time. Michigan will get somebody though they'll take care of Iowa time and time again:)

Coach K was scratched off the list due to reasons unknown, I think somebody over there said he wasn't proven enough
