Will Iowa talk to Pollard?

As we've all read if we've stopped at an Iowa message board, many Hawkeye fans naturally assumed McDermott would replace Alford at Iowa. ISU got him, and Hawk fans were pissed. Do any of you think that Barta could work up the testicular fortitude to try and ask JP for permission to talk to McDermott? The chances are probably pretty slim, but if I hear one more time that McDermott "called Iowa before taking the ISU job to see if there was an opening" I might vomit, because, if McDermott really wanted the Iowa job, all he would have had to do was wait at UNI another couple of years, knowing a train wreck was coming.

Again, I doubt it would happen, but it might be something we'd start hearing about.

Re: Will Iowa talk to Pollard?

I doubt it.

Also, I'd wager that there is language in Greg's contract to assure ISU is greatly compensated if he leaves for either an in-state or in-conference school.

I was there when they crucified my Lord
I held the scabbard when the soldier drew his sword
I threw the dice when they pierced his side
But I've seen love conquer the great divide

Re: Will Iowa talk to Pollard?

Nahh. Greg's a classier guy then that. He commited to ISU, has our full support and will stick around.

Plus it would be really embarrassing for Barta to try and get turned down. Plus throw in the really bad blood it would cause between the schools, I don't think Gary will want to touch that one with a 10 foot pole.

I'm not even saying that Mac would want to talk, nor that Pollard would let Barta talk, but would Iowa ask?

I do think Barta will call Pollard but it will be asking for some tips on how to hire a great coach. What makes me sit back and smile is Pollard has shown the EIU fanbase how hiring can and should be done...three times. Pollard has set the bar VERY high for Barta...

That's what I thought the subject matter of this thread would be when I read the title. I'd give this less than a 0% chance of happening.

I know it was hypothetical, but this is one strange thread. Seems too far out there to even fit the hypothetical framework.

Re: Will Iowa talk to Pollard?

If you are Gary Barta, there is no way that you can sell Greg McDermott. Yes, we think that he is a pretty good coach, and has a bright future. But Iowa has no choice at this point but to open up the checkbook, and hire a name. They have to hire someone that will make their entire fanbase happy, because they are going to be bad next year.

They have to hire a guy that their fans are excited about, and will keep them coming out as they try to rebuild that thing (think a basketball equivalent of Gene Chizik).

IF it did happen, then it would throw a log onto the rivalry fire the size of the entire state of Iowa. It would be just plain bad for business

NO WAY. This is classic message board speculation. I think I'll just start a rumor saying that GMac wants to be the first ever to coach all 3 state schools b-ball programs.

I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.

They're already talking about it. GMac isn't going any where for a LONG time.

Some People see things as they are and say why? I dream things that never were and say why not? When I took this job I said why not Iowa State? Why not winning? Why not bowl games? Why not sell outs? Why not national respect? Why not us? Why not here? Why not the cyclone family?
