BR makes the game fun and he seems to be a likeable guy...whereas Packer's ego can barely fit into the Alamo Dome. Ever since I heard the story of Packer verbally abusing the Duke co-ed at Cameron a few years ago I've lost any ounce of respect I had for him. Nice to see Jim Nantz cashing in on his "celebrity" by doing commericals now too.
| I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. Rafferty is the man, he makes the games fun to watch, packer is a ***** who like s to tell people how much a "basketball genius" he is. I hate billy packer more than I hate Digger Phelps and I hate Digger Phelps. who matches their tie to a highlighter?

I love Raftery as well! He is "just right"!
Billy PACCker is a pompous jerk and Dookie V. is a bufoon!
By the way...Raftery is quite the partier...the man can throw them back with the best! You may have noticed he had the first and second round games in New Orleans...that was no mistake!

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

I just thought of one of my favorite Raftery lines: "There's a little lingerie on the deck" |
I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

I was in Richmond in 1990, watching UNI play. They had beaten Mizzou on a last second shot, but lost to Minnesota in a good secod round game. Packer was doing color commentary, with Musberger doing play by play. They basically had a UNI/cinderella lovefest going on during the game.
The game is over, and Packer is doing interviews (with Clem Haskins and Willie Burton). Burton jumps up on a table to celebrate, but it's in front of the UNI section, bad timing after a closely competitive game, so somebody throws something at him, I think it was some ice, but I am not sure. It misses Burton, and hits Packer in the forehead busting him open.
The guy acts like he was shot. I mean I have been hit with flying objects, and it can sting, but this guy took a knee, and acted like he was seriously hurt. So as I was watching the carnage, the NCAA people come over to take Haskins and Burton to their pressers. All of a sudden, Packer springs back to life, and stands there arguing with this NCAA guy (guess he needed the interview). So they grab a towel, wipe him down, and roll tape. I have a copy of the game somewhere, but the interview was edited, showing only Haskins, and Burton.

I was enchanted last night when Raftery referred to a head fake:
"Head and shoulders, without the dandruff!"

A couple of my favorites
"A little nylon!"
"Team X opens in a 2-3 zone...(really fast) with man to man principles"
"Send it in big fella!"
"We got a little nickle-dimer here"
"With the blow by"
Wow i could go on for ever.... you gotta love Raftery... best anouncer by far in my opinion.

I don't hate the guy but his generic "nickle-dimer" terminology usually pisses me off when it really is a good call by the refs. Just makes it sound like he's whining about them calling a foul every time he says it.
