He is a "one and done" guy, like Durant. If he sets his homebase in LA, think of the opportunities that are there, marketing-wise for this kid.
The problem is that he has had several run-ins with the law. Also, he is not challenged on the court by the competition that he plays. It makes him risky, but Tim never shied away from guys with questionable character before, and they were good players. So, if you don't think that he will take a chance on a great player you weren't watching his four years here.

Normally I find New York Times sports journalism to be mediocre at best and prefer USA TODAY but I have to give the Times some props. I thought the article was fascinating.

Just who does this kid think he is...a member of the mafia? Is he holding someone ransom?
I'd love to have a great player like that yet never want that attitude anywhere near our Cyclone program. I'd like him to visit Ames for a campus tour once, just once. That way, when we have someone with an attitude like this, I can figure out where he is, run up to him, tell him I'm a fan, and punch him right in the trachea. Either that, or I'd ask him if he knew the quadratic equation, and when he says "I'm so good at ball, I don't need to know nuthin!" I can break his knee-cap and say "well, now you do!"

One difference between Durant/Oden and Mayo...Durant and Oden appear to be "quality" people...Mayo appears to be a "punk".
You are right about Floyd...character does not matter if you can play (Kenny Pratt). My son's HS BB coach was recruited by Floyd when he was at UNO (University of New Orleans) and he considers him a real "user"...he uses others to get what he wants. Funny thing about this article is it looks like Floyd is getting "used" by Mayo...KARMA MY FRIENDS!

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

I agree 100%. Watching the OSU-TN game last night, the one thing I did like about Oden was the sportsmanship. Perhaps this is him trying to compensate for the hard foul last weekend that wasn't called - who knows.
But a couple times he would give a pat on the back to a TN player after they made a good play. I like seeing that, especially in these big games where the stakes are high.

This guy is why I don't watch the NBA. Guys never have to prove themselves...they are drafted on pure talent and nothing else. You don't even have to start for your own college team to be a lottery pick. | | |

I don't care how good the kid is, he is still an f***ing punk!
Why do you want a dirtbag like that in your program? And I blame the NBA for all of it.
The NBA has almost reuined basketball.

Mayo has an 'Event Coordinator' contact Floyd...he only calls you and you can't call him and for me the CoolWhip on top of all of this is when he arrives on campus he's "accompanied by a documentary film crew." Nice. Sounds like the perfect STUDENT-athlete.
Of course he'll probably be a stud and ESPN will show him the love with highlight clip after highlight clip. Boy, I can't wait.

Didn't USC almost lose (maybe still in doubt?) a Nat'l Champ because Bush might be ineligible with his outside contacts? This guy screams ineligible before he even gets to college. Why would you take a chance and have someone like this on your team?
