Iowa Coaching List

This post is due to the arrogance of Iowa fans........
Apparently next to coaching in Maui with playboy bunnies as assistants, Iowa is the nirvana of BB coaching jobs. I have started a littlle list to work from for the next vacancy.

1. James Naismith -- Dig his *** up, why not.
2. Adolph Rupp --- He liked slow white guys.
3. Joe B. Hall --- Bobby Knight hated him.
4. John Wooden --- Viagra may sharpen his skills.
5. Billy Packer --- Loves the Big 10

Honestly, the guys on the supposed short list, everyone one of them will be taking a step down to coach at EIU. The arrogance is amazing,

Can we get a mod to move this to In-State Rivalry please? I didn't need to see this under MBB. What they call MBB is more like a criminalistic circus which formerly had really good hair. (Jesse Cossapolis (sp?) anyone?)

I think I've moved about 10 or more posts from the MBB section to In-State Rivals just this week. I know I've seen other mods had to move some too.

Ick.

As far as Iowa's coach list...

1. Coach K - we all know he's been waiting to get out of that horrible Duke program and to the state of Iowa.
2. Gillespie - he's tired of rebuilding and excelling at A&M. No support down there for hoops.
3. Fry - Cocah Fry wants to get back into coaching yet the Iowa football position is filled, so hoops is the next best choice for him.
4. The Mayor - Iowa desperately wants another Dan Gable. Not only will Freddie laugh at them, he'lll whiz on their logo just for calling him.
5. Steve Alford - heck, why not?

Let's be honest here: My high school basketball coach (here in the state of Iowa) is overqualified for the job at iowa...Why would anyone want to coach them? If they are higher than the 9th, 10th, or 11th spot in the little 11 next year, it would be an actual accomplishment they should acknowledge (unlike all the fake little ones they make up so they can put up banners that make no sense.)

the university of iowa needs to buyout "fireiowa.com." there are still a lot of hawk fans in this state buts its easy to see why many more Cyclone and Panther fans are popping up. That university is quickly becoming a joke when it comes to athletics...

It might not sharpen his skills, but if nothing else at all, it will keep him from rolling out of bed. Gives the word kickstand a whole lot more meaning....

Add Pat Riley and Phil Jackson. Red Auerback might be able to do it long distance. They are going to have to settle for a D-2/lower leve D-1 coach. Their fans are complete idiots.

On a serious note, does anybody else question Altman's coaching skills? While the guy's had good success for a mid-major, I still think he'd have similar recruiting problems to Alford. I guess I just don't see him getting Iowa to a higher level than Alford did even though he's a little easier to like.

Any thoughts?

I've thought that same thing...Maybe Altman is a guy who can do more with less, I really don't know, but whoever comes into iowa is gonna have recruiting problems, but sometimes great coaching can overcome player talent deficiency. Alford was just a really, really bad gametime coach...He made some really bad decisions at times, I will say when iowa DID win games they shouldn't have you could really tell it was due to the players, not the coaching strategies...and that same lack of coaching ability showed when they would fall to worse teams like a penn st. or northwestern st.

I do not question his coaching skills. In fact, he kicked Greg's ***, even when Greg had better teams.

I have the feeling that he has been getting ready for a next job for a couple of years now. He signed 2 top 150 players, a first for a school where you traditonally have to find kids and develop them, so I think that he is trying to address that criticism of his coaching.

I would have taken Altman when we were looking after L.E. was fired and I would've taken him if Pollard would've pursued him. I'm thankful we have Greg, yet I think Altman is a good coach.

I'm not meaning to imply he's a bad coach, he clearly isn't, however I do think there's a reason more big time schools haven't gone knocking on his door more often. Some say he has a lot of reasons to stay there so other schools don't try but I call that BS, I think a lot of those schools have reservations about him. I hear he's very hard to get along with, similar to Alford and the ego problem. Maybe that's from a minority of fans but nonetheless I think it'd still be a risky move. He's very similar to what Alford was when they hired him. ALL IN MY OPINION ONLY.
