Great games: Heavy-weight battles and come-back wins

The Sweet 16 games were VERY exciting to watch. It seemed nearly every team that moved on to the weekend had to overcome a rather significant deficit at some point during the game. Can't recall the last time so many were able to come back from double-digit differences.

Some pretty good battles too - basically all of which were settled in the final minutes and a good number in the final seconds.

Definitely a different year for the tournament with all 4 #1 seeds and 3 #2 seeds composing the Elite 8. Lowest seed left a #3. Crazy.

Can't wait to watch the games from this weekend!

who knew you could just pick the higher rank team and do well in the bracket. just doesn't make sense!

Someone aught to score the bracket based on if someone picked all the way to the final 4 purely by who had the better seed. I bet that bracket wouldn't suck.

Biggest upset of the tournament was VCU over Duke - a common occurrence of #11 over #6. Couldn't have happened to a better team.

Just what the NCAA and CBS ordered. "Miraculous" comebacks by the top seeds. And hearing Billy (Fudge) Packer exclaim "Good no-call by the referee!" whenever there should have been one made against the favored team.

If I had to make a general observation...it seems the teams in the Sweet 16 (and even beyond that) are very well matched at the top 5 positions, but the higher seeds are winning because they have better depth on the bench, or at least are playing more than 5-7 players.

We've seen a number of lower seeds build big first half leads that evaporate, and I think alot of that has to do with fresh players vs. worn out players on the floor at the end of the game. Some coaches get set into a 7-8 player rotation and that's what they use. I've always been a fan of using a big (9-10 player) rotation. Even if it means putting some "questionable" talent on the floor during the game, I'd rather have fresher players battling it out at the end then guys who can barely stand upright. Maybe even some of the higher seed coaches are baiting the lower seeds into expending energy building up big leads against their subs, only to have fresher starters come in and take the game at the end.

Last night, for example, I thought Tim Floyd got "baited". USC was just flat worn out with about 8 minutes left in the second half. There was no energy left to continue the dribble penetration that was so successful in the first half and early in the second half, hence the big scoring drought. Roy Williams did a great job of keeping his players fresh. He had some subs in, and USC pulled away, but Roy's starters definitely had more energy at the end. USC's top 5 was handling UNC's top five. In that case, I would have traded having the UNC bench beating up my bench for awhile in the first half/early second half for having a fresher top 5 in at the end of the game.

Does anyone else find James Brown difficult to listen to? His voice lacks emotion and he is not well versed in the area of college basketball.

I tell you what, Memphis must have one heck of a strength and conditioning program, caugh HGH... Not only do they have some beasts and of course Dorsey but has anyone seen Taggert on TV? I would be willing to bet he has put on 25-35lbs since we last saw him.

Yup, I like JB as a studio guy yet not play-by-play.

SEC Champ - Florida
Pac 10 Champ - Oregon
Big 12 Champ - Kansas
Pac 10 Reg. Season Champ - UCLA

Looks like a good representation of conferences.

Wow, you think that Self will hear about this one. Could they have missed more lay ups in the first half. I was so disgusted, I stopped watching.

Good thing for you that you stopped watching because they missed many more gimmies in the 2nd half.
